does anyone else here obsess when selling on ebay?

i have a few items (burton backhill, campy record Ti hubs, and campy chorus cassette) listed on eBay right now. i just listed them this morning and i sit here obsessing about the sales....

I frequently find that the items I really think are a home run fizzle and the stuff I throw on it as an afterthought sell much more then I would of guessed. I sold my brothers 3.2 SSI's a few years back for $1200. I think he paid $675 for them new.

I've been one the fence about Ebay for quite a while, who hasn't? Their fees are fuched up, but that's no news flash.
But I'm still a captive of the place. Where else can you find NOS Schwinn Voyageur 11.8 decals?
Ebay is still very necessary for vintage stuff.

Same here. I listed a set of near-perfect, NOS front grills for a '72 T/A, figuring they'd go for hundreds, and they eventually sold for $50.

Listed some obviously fuch'ed up front turn signals for a '74 T/A and they went for almost $150.



Do I obsess? No. Throw everything on for $9.99 (no reserve) and let 'em roll.

Why?? Put them up for sale and if you are concerned put a reserve on them. Go have lunch, get a BJ, or play with the Porsche. Its not worth worrying about...

Ebay's really irritating to me over the last few years. They force you to accept paypal.

I've got a few hundred sales over the last 10 years - I mostly buy but not that often.

Accepting Paypal is a huge pain in my butt - I don't trust them and I don't want to accept it. I rarely have anything high dollar and the one time I did I had to wait something like 30 days to get my money all the while fully expecting the guy on the other end to file a claim and clean me out.

Never again.

In the past I had always said, money order, cash or personal check only. If it was a money order or check I would either cash it at the bank it was drawn or wait 10 days for it to clear. Nobody ever gave me a bad check or MO, nobody ever complained about it and I was always up front in my auctions about my 'policy'.

Most of my sales were hobby related so now I take that business to the hobby related forums I subscribe to. They are FREE and I can usually arrange a local pickup and make a new flying buddy.

I always obsess about the las 1/2 hour of my auctions....refresh, refresh, refresh. I try to just check in now & then during the week.

First off I want to say that my EBay experience has been very good.
So far I haven't had any issues. Everything I've bought has turned up.
I've only bought about 30 things in total... Mainly vintage tools, camera gear and Campy bike parts.

The way I look at it is...

If I buy and pay for something then I have to be prepared to kiss the money good bye.
It's a bit like lending money to a family or friend. You have to be prepared never to see that money again.
If the item turns up, that's a bonus and always a relief.

I've never tried to sell anything on E Bay but I dread the thought.
All of those fees and BS? No thanks.

When you sell you have to have an ELECTRONIC Means of payment....which means PayPal..and most of the time the customer uses that PayPal...and they take their CUT.

For selling ART I don't know anyother venue other than using an Auction House to sell your art. If it is the low $$$ stuff I like to buy than 20% commish is the rule, by low $$ I mean under $5000 a copy.

Sounds like an ebay success strategy. But. I suggest have lunch and get BJ and play with the Porsche, check your listing, repeat. It's like being a corporate CEO.

They do not force you into using PayPal. They do make it a lot easier to use PayPal.

I hate PP, but if you structure it right its liveable. Years ago they wanted me to use a bank account with PP and I did. Then there was a problem and they locked up my bank account.

Never again! I closed the bank account and left PP on my AmEx card. Never changed it even when they keep sending me crap about "you need to add a bank account to your PP account."

Remember that you are the customer. If you do not like the rules you can either try for an exception.... or leave. For now I am staying but forcing them to do things my way.

I sell BMWs on ebay, not often but from time to time when one of my projects is completed. For less than $75 I get 10000 + hits in a week and half of them are from people who are interested in this particular model. The Ebay traffic is the best advertisement and cheapest by far !
Right now I have an 88 M6 for sale on ebay with 64k miles, in 2 days I got almost 30 bids on it and 3000 people looked at it

that is why i sell, occasionally, on ebay: sheer volume of traffic. none of the stuff i have for sale right now is super high dollar, but i know i will get at least double for it on ebay vs. listing it locally.

I have sold 400+ items (incl. over 10 cars) on eBay and get anxious all the time and do obsess, the last 30minutes is frantic..LOL! I find when I do not check often and log back in that is when I get a pleasant surprise that the items have jumped in price.
