Jeff,
Where I live there are only two ways out. Of course people look at the Barracades and sometimes you have to look at the situation. I had to wait till noon yesterday before I could get out to go to work. Everyone thought the storm was over, than we got hit again last night. I knew about the rain but this guy probably did not live in the area. I think the rain was rather localized. He probably crossed the night before, just like I did and it was not flowing across the roadway. I think your comment was a tad flippent. Regards p930man |
I hate PC. Really, I do. You're a fool. You only get one life and you choose to live in Oklahoma. A place that even Texans look down on. HAHAHAHAHA...:D
We've been down this boring path before but the fact is that most people would gladly pay triple to live in California over cowschit Oklahoma or some other god-forsaken place. You could give me the biggest cow palace in your state with a fleet of new PU trucks for free and I'd say no thanks. Jesus, what a jackass...and your Phd friend must be an idiot. :) |
Actually, I really don't care about the tu / uo game held every year. Wife are an Aggie (TAMU) and Sis-in-Lar are a Cowboy (OSU).
Besides, the other skools are a bit too, liberal ;-) James, Yep, but I remember the time when Austin was wierd with rednecks, longnecks, cowboys, and hippies. Now it just feels like KA LA LA land to me. Denis, As a buddy of mine (who grew up in Compton) used to say: I can't wait for the BIG QUAKE!! That way the rest of you guys will fall into the Atlantic and California will have TWO coasts! |

Secondly, I drive the conditions and make decisions dependent upon such- I apologize if I have somehow offended you by thinking for myself instead of parking in the rain and baaaaa-ing. |
Red,
I lived +/- 18 years in Houston and Sheila Jackson Lee, is a real POS. Ie where,s the flag on Mars and most recently North and South Vietnam are living in harmony. She has to be the dumbest of all the Dem's and that,s saying something. Preston |

You are exactly the kind of self centered ass hole that gets emergency crews up at night and puts them at unnecessary risk. The fact that you made it through this time only encourages like minded ass holes to try it themselves, or for guys like Tervuren to think it was somehow alright. |
Are you fools aware that you have turned a basic innocent post about a storm into a pissing match, including people actually getting mad at each other?
WTF is wrong with this board lately? |
apparently there is PARF spill-over into OT
very well-put post, Mike |

What years were you there? I was thar '83-'86 - Jackie Sherrill days...before he got caught... Yeah, Austin is still weird, just a different kind of weird now... |

I was just making the point that we are not just rednecks and pickups. That's Dallas... |
Sorry, Mike, but maybe you don't get many travelers' advisories broadcast on your radio and television stations. Here in the Pugent Sound area, we hear a lot of them. Either the DOT advising folks stay off the mountain passes over the Cascades due to snow, avalanche, mud slide, or other dangers, or we get the Coast Guard issuing small craft advisories out on the Sound, up in the Straights, or off the coast. All are forwarded by "minimum wage DJ's" as a public service. They do not use "official" channels, whatever that may mean.
And sure as hell, every time such warnings are issued, there are folks who either did not receive them or folks who did and chose to ignore them. Granted, I don't have a lot of sympathy for anyone who would travel our mountains in the winter or our waters at any time without checking for such advisories first, but I really run out of patience for the jerks that hear them and decide they are above them. They put emergency crews at risk that are already overwhelmed with the clueless who didn't check. They certainly don't need the added burden of the arrogant that didn't listen, that didn't think it applies to them. So, no, this wasn't some "basic innocent post about a storm". This is about a prick who ignored warnings, driving into a storm of unkown severity and, in doing so, putting others at risk. We have rescue personel that die periodically going out to help ass holes like this. |

Yep we have them thar tornadoes. The top bad tornado is an EF-5. Only one of them has ever been measured at over 300 MPH. It ripped right across OKC metro area. Some houses were cleaned right off down to the concrete foundation. But just a few blocks away the houses were fine. We did not even loose electricity in my part of town. We watched it for several HOURS and knew exactly where it was heading. They don't sneak up on us. We have tons of warnings. The last one to hit the metro area was forecast DAYS before it hit, really!
Now them thar earthquakes, mudslides and wildfires are scary. They wipe out large areas with no warning. I guess your big race riots are contained to large metro areas after big sports games. And just for speeder, Kalifornia is the land of fruits & nuts! :D But it is a nice place to go on vacation. |
