Denis, have you considered maybe smoking dope? You need to mellow out man.

I actually did consider it at one time.

As a doctor, I recommend it. I think that makes it legal for you here; in Oklahoma I think they give you the chair for a joint, in Texas they just shoot you where you stand if they catch you smoking that wacky tabacky.

Chuck Norris would just give you a hard look and your bones would just turn to water. He has a place out by Navasota, I think I may have seen one of his victims, puddle by the side of the road.

porsche4life 09-09-2010 05:54 PM

There's something else good about OK.... Chuck Norris!

speeder 09-09-2010 06:31 PM

I'm probably the only one here who has actually met Chuck Norris. He's a nice guy.

Groesbeck Hurricane 09-09-2010 06:32 PM

And here I was thinking that Sidney, James, and Denis were just joking with me as I was with them. Hmmm, guess I need to get my head checked.

Texans respect Mr. Norris. We just don't shake and shiver when he comes near! Never understood why he played a Texas Ranger not an Oklahoma Ranger. Oh yeah, sorry about that...

James,

Wife graduated from TAMU/College Station in '90, President's Scholarship. Masters and Doctorate and Diplomat elsewhere but she has ALWAYS called TAMU home! I'm a bit older than her and never had the pleasure to attend TAMU as I went into the Air Force instead.

Sis is graduating in December after three years at OSU. She starts her Masters immediately thereafter, if I have understood correctly.

And IF we could get her away from bf (how do you make these little characters) EVERYONE would be HAPPY.

Denis,

How is the 356 coming??? Curious out here in the sticks with the river rats and other rednecks.

Groesbeck Hurricane 09-09-2010 06:34 PM

Denis,

I have never met him but I understand from others that he is a stand-up guy who really likes his little ranch in Texas. But that was years ago, more than a decade. Doubt he has changed.

Sorry, Mike, but maybe you don't get many travelers' advisories broadcast on your radio and television stations. Here in the Pugent Sound area, we hear a lot of them. Either the DOT advising folks stay off the mountain passes over the Cascades due to snow, avalanche, mud slide, or other dangers, or we get the Coast Guard issuing small craft advisories out on the Sound, up in the Straights, or off the coast. All are forwarded by "minimum wage DJ's" as a public service. They do not use "official" channels, whatever that may mean.

And sure as hell, every time such warnings are issued, there are folks who either did not receive them or folks who did and chose to ignore them. Granted, I don't have a lot of sympathy for anyone who would travel our mountains in the winter or our waters at any time without checking for such advisories first, but I really run out of patience for the jerks that hear them and decide they are above them. They put emergency crews at risk that are already overwhelmed with the clueless who didn't check. They certainly don't need the added burden of the arrogant that didn't listen, that didn't think it applies to them.

So, no, this wasn't some "basic innocent post about a storm". This is about a prick who ignored warnings, driving into a storm of unkown severity and, in doing so, putting others at risk. We have rescue personel that die periodically going out to help ass holes like this.

Mister Higgins: Just thought I'd help your day go smoothly tomorrow by reminding you now that shoes go on after pants, and you'll get a gold star if you use the potty and not the floor.

Sheesh.

He's a nice man. Not lacking in self-confidence and definitely a "male dog" but nice and friendly, etc.

It's always nice to be around people who have nothing to prove.

Going well, picking up engine bits from machine shop tomorrow if they're ready. (Fingers crossed).

Yep we have them thar tornadoes. The top bad tornado is an EF-5. Only one of them has ever been measured at over 300 MPH. It ripped right across OKC metro area. Some houses were cleaned right off down to the concrete foundation. But just a few blocks away the houses were fine. We did not even loose electricity in my part of town. We watched it for several HOURS and knew exactly where it was heading. They don't sneak up on us. We have tons of warnings. The last one to hit the metro area was forecast DAYS before it hit, really!
...

We had an F-5 in Texas that I remember well. It was in Jarrell about 13 years ago. It was strong enough to pull the asphalt and dirt off the ground.

Seahawk 09-10-2010 05:36 AM

I posted a month or so ago that I drove my daughter out to college in AZ.

I had just read a book called, "Empire of the Summer Moon" and want to go see the Wachita Mountains in OK, and also many of the plains sites referenced in the book.

We stayed in Sawnee, OK for the night and then headed southwest, through Norman, Lawton and then over to the Wachitas. From there we headed west through Texas into NM and AZ, all off the interstate.

I have to saw that OK was beautiful, Norman a great college town. Really. My daughter told me she had no idea how nice this part of the country was.

The vistas driving to the Wachitas were great. Leaving Cache was a bit drab but soon changed: the country rolls, big sky and, to us, very scenic.

It is what is, but the power of that part of the plains, once ruled by the Comanches, is undeniable to me.

porsche4life 09-10-2010 05:58 AM

If she liked Norman, she would have really liked Stillwater. It's a nicer campus and much more Ag oriented.

Now them thar earthquakes, mudslides and wildfires are scary. They wipe out large areas with no warning. I guess your big race riots are contained to large metro areas after big sports games.

And just for speeder, Kalifornia is the land of fruits & nuts! :D

But it is a nice place to go on vacation.

Yep, them earthquakes can hit anytime anywhere cept I live 40 miles from the san andreas so I'm a little safer than others. Not much, but a little. Besides, my neighbors are all stocked up with supplies and I'm all stocked up with spoons and ammo, guess who's goin hungry?

Mudslides? Doan affect me at all, I don't live on a hill like them uppercrust folks. I doan ever hafta wurry bout no mudslides.
Same with them wildfires, them fancy-pants folks who hafta live in big ole houses on the edge of wherever in the hills and brush and open spaces are the ones thet get hit with them wildfires. I doan hafta wurry bout that neither. I'm down here in the flatlands with all sorts of other folks around me, no brush to speak of unless yer talking bout my neighbor's ficus that drops leaves in my pool when I ain't lookin.

BTW, them race riots? That only happens in LA and Long beach and such (where we keep most of them fruits and nuts), not around where I live.

Them folks know better then to try and get uppity in orange country, too many pissed off well armed white folk here who wouldn't take kindly to that sort of carryin on. Kinda like Texas-lite.

Southern California is a really, really big place with all kinds of people. Lots of em. more than you can count.

What folks in other parts of the country see on TV is only a really tiny part of this place.
They can be showing all sorts of really bad disasters and such and making it seem like it's the end of the world, but most of us would never even know about it iffn it weren't on the boob tube.

Prolly like when they show an entire town in tornader alley completely wiped out, double-wides and all.
But the next town over didn't even loose any aluminium siding.

BTW my mom was born in Norman and the rest of my family is from new Mexico or Texas.

GH85Carrera 09-10-2010 06:33 AM

I drove my 911 out to San Diego a few years back for PCA Porsche Parade. My wife flew out and we drove up to San Francisco. We came back south down H-1. It is purdy out there.

TV coverage of disasters of any sort are usually way over hyped.

FWIW you guys should try being from New Jersey. We get NO respect! But then again we don't need it:p

speeder 09-10-2010 11:17 AM

"Jersey girls ain't trash!"

"Trash gets picked up"

(Seen on a T-shirt once).

jjwood 09-10-2010 11:20 AM

Might help.
