Mob Justice!

Residents say at least 1,000 people then caught up with them at the base and broke through the gates. The mob got ahold of the suspected kidnappers and beat them a second time.

The crowd then held them for seven hours, locked in a hot vehicle where they eventually died.

Now this is how you deal with criminals!

Fed Up, A Mexican Town Resorts To Mob Justice : NPR

The kidnappers will think twice before they try again in this town.

Brought a tear to my eye. I hope they suffered.

Seven hours in a hot vehicle is a nice slow way to die.

While this makes for a fascinating and self-gratifying story, lynch mobs are not the way to handle these situations; too many times the mob gets the wrong guy.

There was an excellent Op-Ed by George Will about 20 years ago regarding the Bernard Goetz shooting of two thugs on the NYC subways. The jist of it was that society makes a pact with the government that they protect us and we won't be vigilantes. When that fails, as in much of Mexico and the police do nothing, the people take back their society.

That's what's SUPPOSED to happen anyway...

It's interesting. When one group of people goes door-to-door (or business-to-business) and demands that the residents pay them for "protection", it's called "law enforcement". When another group does the exact same thing it's called "mob extortion".

Just an interesting observation. Not saying all bona fide cops are bad or that all bona fide mobsters are good, but generally speaking, I'd feel a lot better "protected" by the mafia than by the police departments these days... Too many of them seem far more concerned with protecting their own interests, budgets, cushy retirement programs and benefits, etc. than they do about protecting the people who pay for that service. Not all, some. And the problem isn't necessarily with the uniformed guy, it's with management/administration/command.

Well the difference there is the cops usually don't come back in the middle of the night and burn your business down or drag you out to the ally to break your kneecaps.

Was talking with a friend yesterday. He had gotten caught in some crossfire from a gang shooting in Echo Park. Took 7 rounds in his 4 Runner before he was able to get the heck out of there.

He had been down at the police station to see about changing the police report. Apparently the crime was classified as "vandalism", a byproduct of Chief Bratton's administration to re-classify crimes to make the city appear "safer".

Sounds like up here. My neibours garage was broken in to a couple days ago. They took his $300 compressor. His insurance deductible is $500 so no claim. He called the cops, they said come in and make a report. Wouldn't come out to his house. He said screw it. So if you don't make the report, crime rates are down and it looks good on year end stats

This is widespread - do a Google search on the story of Adrian Schoolcraft (NYPD) and what happened to him when he dropped a dime on his precinct's widespread downplaying and reclassification of serious crime to manipulate their numbers. The story (and associated videos) are downright shocking.

And FWIW the mafia doesn't generally beat up good paying customers, only informants or those who don't pony up - which again isn't too much different than local governments/PDs. Try not paying your taxes (protection money) sometime and see how nicely you're treated by the local cops.
