Would you be happier with shorter days and even shorter nights?

I think a day is too long. I don't spend much time commuting, so I leave a few minutes before I need to arrive. 8 hours of anything is too much, so I work 6 straight through, no breaks and go home. I sleep 8-9 hours. That leaves too much time.

I'd change things to 18 hour days.

Funny though, when I was 20, I would work in the shop for 20 hours and sleep 6-8. That put me in the shop at all times because I made my own 26 to 28 hour days. I can't do that now because if it's light outside, I'm awake.

So, I'm captured by the 24 hour day. How 'bout you?

I wish my day was longer... Say 26 instead f 24.

That way I would have some time to myself. Between work and my kids there isn't much left.
I walk for an hour most evenings but that's about it.

No I'd be happier with days about 20 hours long and nights about four hours long. Actually that's pretty much the schedule I keep now.

I wish the day were longer. Maybe about 26-28 hours. But make those extra hours daylight workday hours. Right now I'll leave the house at 7 in the morning, get home 12 hours later, and still not have completed everything I wanted to do because insurance companies and businesses are closed.

Ever been way up north during the summer? I've spent time above the arctic circle in Alaska and Norway and ended up just making my own sleep/play schedule (I was on vacation) At maybe 4AM I'd finally just try and get some sleep. When the sun doesn't go down, you don't sleep as much, but you don't get very tired, either.

I used to do all sorts of experimentation with work/sleep schedules as my previous venture had me setting my own hours. I found that I could get the most work done by either:

A) 22-24 hours awake, either 4 or 8 hours of sleep. Not 5,6 or 7 hours. 4 or 8.

B) 24 hours awake, 8-10 hours asleep.

This made for non-even days, and thus a rolling day/night schedule.

The important thing is never sleeping for a duration over 4 hours but under 8 hours. When under a lot of stress, that's when the REM kicks in and if you disturb that it makes for hell the next shift. So either enjoy it or avoid it. I usually avoided it.

I am taking a long vacation to remodel my house. The vacation time is comming to the end now, but still have lot of works to be done. I wish a day is 48 hours, and 45 hours with day light.

Sounds like you need a hobby to fill the time. There should be more to life than work and sleep...

I took up metal working several years ago. I went to welding school and bought lots of tools. Got pretty good at some aspects, but the fire has left. Been working with wood all my life. I'm pretty good at that too. Again, I'm just not inspired.

I really don't see myself playing golf although I did as a teen and have a good swing. Sure not going to bowl, but I enjoyed bowling as a youth.

I should probably do a yoga class, but I hate regimen. After 40 years of working for people as a contractor, I prefer to be alone in the quiet.

30 hour days would be nice. Then I might actually get to see my wife, and even have some hobby time.

Full time job, usually go to sleep around midnight and up at 6. Second job teaching three times a week, grading papers, preparing for lectures. Wife works full time and full time in school. Some days we see each other for the first time at 11pm. Then make lunch, scoop the cat box, etc, and it's time for bed and another night without getting enough sleep.

Add grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning, and other miscellaneous errands and it seems like I never have the time to do anything I want. I feel like I spend all of my time busy with no time left over for living.

"Simpler life" sounds nice, but I need to keep paying these bills, including my 200% LTV mortgage.
