I need a quiet generator

5000w or so.

Any recommendations or used one you want to sell/give me?

The Honda EU6500iSA is a 60db(A) but lists for $5000.
I have a EU2000iA that shows 53-59da(A), and it's pretty quiet.
There's a 3kw also for $2300 if that would be big enough.

The honda and yamaha inverters are very quiet but very pricey when you go above 2000w.
Kipor is not as quiet but darn close and much cheaper for the larger inverters

Has anyone tried a modified muffler setup to try to reduce noise? I've always thought of that, but was never sure it would work well enough.

You can usually get the Honda for 20% off or more if you look around.

Sure wish I'd bought one after hurricane Ike when everyone was selling slightly used ones. The $1000 Honda engined generator (not a Honda generator) I have is loud as crap.

a Gererator is quiet like a mouse and good for 80 Ams continuous, with 180 Ams in Burst mode. And that's just the entry level.

You'de have to be a fool to still look for Generators this day and age.

You can hook up 2 Honda EU2000's and get 3kw continuous (and 2X the db).

What's your application and how quiet do you need it to be?

+1 for the Gererator.
Gererators are almost as quiet as solar, but actually produce usable amounts of electricity.

Ahh, sorry, I'm not too familiar with RV applications - mostly stationary.

I use this for my 5th wheel setup. You can buy cheaper, but you can't buy better.
I got it for $1785 delivered. Electric start and pull start. It is extremely quiet and has "ECO-MODE". The engine throttles down depending on current draw. It will run my 15000btu AC on high for about 12-14 hours/tank. I just can't run the microwave and the AC at the same time. If I don't run the AC, it will definately last the 20 hours advertised. It is a little heavy to be lifting it into the back of a pickup very often, but you can get a wheel kit to roll it into a toy hauler. You literally will not know that it is running.

I used the EU3000IS to power a 110 MIG welder, worked like a charm.

I have two eu2000's, bought one used with the RV pack installed, paid less than $2,000 for both. The newer one is actually acting up, the older one is rock solid. Figures. Very quiet. Runs my 13,000 AC plus light, fridge, etc. in the RV.
