What to do during a power outage....?

SO the power went out......the power company won't post on the website what the issue is, won't accept or even post an email address, the land line phone don't work because they are power assist, the cell lines are jammed.....finally got thru and an auto accident took out a transformer.....

So...had sex, smoked a fatty, got a good book to read but just have candles.......can't sleep......hmmmm, burglary, drive the 911, can't go get drunk cause the bar is closed.......could take the spoon out and take pot shots at low flying aircraft......gotta do something, down to 63% on the battery.....

Any suggestions?

Look at the stars, summer triangle is up, or should be, Deneb, Vega and Altair. If the power is out, it is probably dark, right?

Wow, you're spoiled. In my last house, I'd be out 3 to 4 days at a time, a few times each winter......Never got an ETA from the power company......Was a good time to grab the chainsaw and help the crews clear downed trees for the free wood.....

Got by just fine with a wood stove and a 2,500 watt generator to run the fridge, microwave, computer, 2 laps, TV and Sat dish....

What do we do when the power is out? Fire up the generator and then return to regularly scheduled programming....

When we were out for several weeks during a bad ice storm, dad got them to come get us and few others back on. He reminded them that his business was at the house, he needed power to make money, and he would gladly take his bucket truck and fix the problem. A line was down several miles past us. If they would cut that line ~10 houses could be on before they could fix it.... They finally cut the line....

Did a drive, observed Jupiter, found my mine flashlight and read a Dick Francis novel......power back on after 6 hours. No back up generator. It's a rental 20 miles outside Reno.....

During a power outage, the 1st thing I do is realize that almost everything I want to do involves electricity! During power outages during MI winters, you'll remember that electricity is required to run the furnace's motor and you'll think about using the fireplace, if you have one.

Been out of power in my home for as many as 11 days. I broke down and bought a generator just to run the well and the furnace.

I once setup my tent in my apartment in the middle of a summer heat wave, because the tiny A/C was only capable of that much in 100+...

Power was usually only off for a few hours at a time when I lived in Pakistan. Of course, we did work in a 2000 MW power station...

Our part of Phoenix had a chain reaction transformer issue two nights ago. Pretty soon we realized that everyone's power had been restored... accept for the 14 houses at the end of our street. Turns out that as they were resetting everything, our transformer actually blew out.

While it got a little warm inside, neighbors we rarely see started coming outside. We all ended up on one neighbors front porch hanging out for a couple of hours. Actually, it was pretty nice.

When the lights first went out, I went through a list of thing I could do without power. It boiled down to swim or exercise. My laptop battery was charged, so I popped in a DVD and spent 45 minutes on my recument bike. Got a little warm toward the end, but not too bad. In the end we were without power for about 4 hours.

All this talk about power outage and this AM, we lost power for 3 hours due to lightning. Life sucks without electricity!

Yes, hauling buckets of creek water to flush the toilet (because there's no power to run the well pump) adds a dose of reality to the Ever Feel Like Throwing It All In And Living In One Of These? thread.
