I used to live in Tequesta and then Jupiter in the eightee's. Did Hobe Sound for a few months too... pretty boring up there.
I'm in West Palm now and the nicest beaches in S. Florida are in Jupiter. Enjoy your stay ... |

PBIR is just over the holler'.
http://racepbir.com/events/month.calendar/2010/10/25/-.html Other than that, be off the streets by 10. Sidewalks get rolled-up about that time. Last edited by Danny_Ocean; 09-24-2010 at 09:06 PM.. |

If you can manage a 2hr drive (each way), the Kennedy Space Center is pretty cool.

Kennedy Space Center will be shut down very soon...at least NASA will be. We, as a country, are making a big mistake allowing the shuttle program to be discontinued. Were going to rely on Russia and China to service satellites!

Yeah, I know. It is concerning though.
Jupiter is a great place; nice people and not too much congestion. I have had my "a55" handed to me heading out Jupiter inlet...nasty swell and cross currents can really toss a 41' sailboat around.

Yes, it's very sad. The "brain drain" that's going to occur on the eastern coast of FL is going to leave the area in a very sorry state. I'm glad to have lived there when I did (back in the 1990s) when it was probably at one of its high points (the other being in the mid-1960s). Lots of good engineering type jobs there, scientific research opportunities and burgeoning businesses. Once NASA closes up shop there, not too much will remain - a few military bases (Patrick AFB, etc.) some retirement communities and what's left of Harris Semiconductor - the little that wasn't "outsourced" to China.
FL doesn't really have much in the way of resources... Some citrus production, some tourism, etc. Technology and the space exploration biz was one of the few things it had going for it. Oh well, just a few more jobs that Obama 'n Palz can claim credit for destroying. I guess on the upside I'll be able to go back and buy one of the places I considered buying on Merritt Island or in Indiatlantic for cheap - better for retirement I guess, if I even stay in the USA for retirement... If there's one thing FL needs (or did when I was there) it's more professional-type jobs and a culture of educated workers. There is an amazing percentage of people in FL that have marginal high school-level educations and only know how to do landscaping, push buttons on a cash register, build houses (poorly) or rassle 'gators. With no reason for educated people to go there, it'll revert to being a giant trailer park with some tourist traps stuck in it here and there. Sad. It had such potential.

I was there then, too, Jeff. I didn't see you...where were you hiding?

Hop in the rental car and come up to N Florida to hit the springs - either Ginnie or Blue for swimming, the Rainbow River for canoe/kayak/tube/swimming, the Itchetucknee for canoe/tube/kayak, or Silver Springs for staying dry, seeing animals (think zoo) and some of what N Florida has w/ the glass bottom boat rides.

Planning to stop by Brumos Motors on the way down. The Brumos race shop/ museum has always been a very tough ticket. Anyone have a contact for the race shop? Would simply be looking for about a 1 hour visit>
