cracked iphone screen

Wife always lays her iphone on entry way table, glass. Yesterday she got a call and it vibrated( no not that vibrator) off the table and hit the tile floor... crack. She took it to an Apple store ,told them what happened, "we have a machine that will fix it be right back" 10 minutes and 99$ later it was fixed

Did my own, but it does take some time and patience. Bought the kit from amazon.com for $15 which included the tools needed. Watched the youtube video and then went to work. Took me about an hour start to finish.

OK was it 99 bucks or 15 bucks? Your last post says 15, first says 99.

If you had to pay 99$ to have it fixed I would say the warranty is already voided?

Not sure if this was a one off, but they replaced the screen on ours for free a few months back. I didn't ask them to, they just took it in back and brought it out fixed. But I would have paid the $99, beats getting a new phone.

They don't fix them, they just swap a rebuilt one for yours, swap sim cards and off you go.

Apple retail stores can now replace broken iPhone screens
By Jim Dalrymple
JULY 2, 2009, 10:16 AM PT

Apple has expanded the services offered by its retail stores to include fixing damaged iPhone screens.

The Loop has confirmed that if your iPhone has a broken screen and you take it to an Apple retail relocation, they have the capability to fix it on the spot. The machine (think big suction cup), which is located out of customer view in the back of the store, reportedly separates the iPhone from the screen, allowing a new one to be installed.

Of course, your screen doesn’t have to be completely smashed to need some sort of replacement done. Some users have reported dust particles on the inside of the screen as well.

All three models of the iPhone can have there screens replaced at a store under this program. Unfortunately, due to the way they are built, iPod touch screens cannot be replaced.

If your phone is under warranty and the screen needs to be replaced due a defect with the device, there is no cost to have the screen replaced at a retail store. However, if it’s not a warranty issue, the cost of having the screen replaced is $199.

The displays are the only warranty work being done in the retail stores these days. The stores also have to ability to fix or replace damaged audio components in the iPhone.

Of course, allowing its retail staff to fix minor issues in the store cuts down on the amount of time customers are potentially without their iPhones. That makes for some happy customers.

If you decide you’d like to tackle the problem yourself, you can always follow Jeff Carlson’s DIY guide over at TidBITS.

Ahh, no.

Apps, music, movies, pics are not stored on the sim.

I've taken a couple in for replacement.

They will bring you the old one, (if it powers on, has basic function) and ask you to wipe it before they retain it.

I had the screen on my 3GS swapped for free (under warranty) while I waited ~5 minutes. They definitely replaced the screen module only, on my same phone.

Fairly recently our 2 year-old threw my wife's 4 off the 2nd-floor landing onto tile below. Totally shattered the back glass but the screen survived fine. Ironically she was on that couple month waiting list for the free case, so there was no case on the phone (not like it would've helped in that fall.) Apple store quoted her $99 IIRC but the wait was crazy and she walked out.

I threw my Droid out the car window at 50MPH a couple of weeks ago (OK, actually I left it on the roof and it fell off at 50MPH ). The battery cover was 50 yards away! Works perfect. Even the keyboard still slides out
