Interesting lunch place.

One of the places I eat at on occasion is Ann’s Chicken Fry House. It is on Route 66 and is decorated with 60’s style paraphernalia. They have a great lunch special that is the perfect definition of Oklahoma food. My lunch today was a small salad with ranch dressing, chicken fried steak & mashed potatoes covered in white gravy, fried okra, black eyed peas & a dinner roll. All for less than seven bucks.

They have some of the bricks on the wall signed from customers from all over the world. Today I sat at the lunch counter next to a guy that was just a little smaller than Shaquille O’Neal. He was from Fargo ND and sounded like one of the actors from the movie. He was in town for some business deal and was told he really needed to eat at Ann’s. He had never had a chicken fried steak and that is what he wanted for lunch. He told the waitress he was real hungry and she said they could fix that. He ordered the chicken fry dinner with a side of okra & green beans. That dinner size steak hangs out over the edges of the plate and has a second plate of mashed potatoes. It was like watching Jethro Bodine from the Beverly Hillbillies eat. He congratulated them on filling him up.

I only eat there when I need something from the local tool store that is three blocks away. It is like a small Harbor Freight with cheap Chinese tools but they also have the next tier of much better name brand tools.

Anyway Ann’s is an interesting place. If you are ever in Oklahoma City, stop in for a great meal. It’s just a few miles from I-40.

I can't begin to count the number of times I ate there growing up and always enjoyed it. A few months ago, I went with a co-worker for lunch and the only thing different was some of the decor. Note to self...time for another visit.

Those places are cool!

Sunday I went to see my girl in Pittsburg, KS (look that one up!) and I got to see the "Chicken Mary's vs. Chicken Annie's" Fried Chicken Challenge in person:

We went to Mary's, but we forgot it was Sunday afternoon, 1PM. Church had just let out, and there was a 45 minute wait.

Chicken was GREAT. Almost as good as Gus' in TN. Sides were classic "Middle Mmerica", powdered mashed potatoes and green beans from a can.

That sounds good. Real good. I love small out of the way places with real home style cooking.

Chicken fried steak is cube steak, breaded with flour and corn meal and spices and pan fried similar to fried chicken. It's served with white gravy and mashed taters and some sort of veggies, usually green beans or corn. Good creamed corn is better.
It'll stick to your ribs! (when was the last time ya heard that?)

it's also really good for breakfast with eggs and hash browns, if you don't plan to do anything else for the rest of the morning except take a nap

Dude... I grew up in Clinton. Years ago, Johnnie's was the place (further east, before you went up the hill). I see things have changed. =)

The G&R ( Home ) is about 2 hours from here. I like to drive up in the 911, have a fried baloney sandwich and a barley pop or two, and watch the Buckeyes whip up on their latest victim.

Just wondering how you got hooked up with a girl that much younger than you? I'm quite jealous really.... I'd be doing good to score half that good looking...

Cmon, I'm sure you could score with some girls half your age if you really put your mind to it!
