Vessel Faucet "Run on"

I have the below faucet in our half bath on the main floor. It looks great with a copper vessel sink, but it has a really annoying "run on" problem after it is turned off.

What happens is, after the faucet is turned off, a fair amount of water continues to run from the spout. But what's worse, it the water does not drip into the sink (copper vessel bowl), it runs along the bottom of the spout and back to the faucet post and pools around the base of the faucet!! I would estimate that 1/4 cup of water runs out and under the spout and ends up on the counter.

I am guessing that this is a seal problem that allows that much water to run out after being turned off, but why does the water not drip off the end of the spount and into the sink?

Two questions: Do you think a new seal would fix this problem? And where are the seals located in this type of faucet? I took the top few pieces off and it was not obvious how the rest of it came apart for servicing.

The pooling water comes from lack of a drip edge, and water's natural adhesion to the faucet material.
Tesla designed a paddle-less water wheel based on this.

Mabye there can be a small cut made underneath, an edge added, or mabye the whole faucet shimmed to lean forward.

This might be fixed with a new top seal which only allows higher speeds.

Piss poor design, no drip inducer. usually there's a little metal thing hanging down that causes drips to happen in a desired spot. Obviously on this one form did not follow function.

A small glob of color-matched RTV on the underside would prolly do the trick, after you try to rebuild it to get it to shut off. If you can find parts.

Are you sure that thing is plumb? It looks like the spout is tilted and has a lip.

I would have to say it is out of plumb. They make good faucets and I have used one of those - no drip.

Yep, that's the one!

I have it apart now, and these things are weird. They have three oblong o-ring seals on the bottom of the cartridge that seal against a brass plate with holes in it.

Regarding whether it is plumb or not, that is a great question!! It is mounted on a granite countertop, so I just assumed the counter was level and therefore assumed that the centerset was plumb. I will check both tonight when I get home.

And I see what you guys are saying that it lacks a drip edge, and that does seem like a crappy design! I wonder if it would drip straight down if it was absolutely plumb, or if it would still run back underneath? I'll try some checks for level when I get home. If it is a tad out of plumb (i.e. leaning back just a bit), how would I shim it back to level without leaving a gap between the counter and the base?

I'd just shim the counter top up ever so slightly....

I don't think it would need a drip edge if it was plum or tilted ever-so-slightly forward.

Plumb and Plumber are from the latin for the metal lead (plumbum) the Romans made water pipes and drinking vessels out of lead; which is believed to be part of the reason they didn't last (lead poisining which effects the brain).
