economic stimulus (5-string variety)
You just can't keep a good credit card down. Been searching for the right 5-string fretted. I sold my Zon Bubinga as it was a bit too modern sounding for most of my bands, and I wanted something less "coffee table" and more "classic." Criteria was 18mm bridge spacing, PJ setup, under 9lbs, and ideally alder/rw in sunburst/tort. A little searching and viola:
Much as I dig the Rob Allen Solid 4, I'll probably sell that as I hate having a "collection" of basses. Plus I have another RA Mouse 30" scale (this one fretless) on order ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

At what point does a bass stop becoming an instrument and start becoming art? Beautiful man!

Just beautiful. Never actually seen a 5-string bass!

Not being a bass man myself, all I can say is that you have some beautiful axes.... this one is no exception... you have a great eye... Would love to have a mid 70's model Les Paul in this burst color....

The sum of my musical expertise can be contained in the null set...
Yet I want to touch that and feel the sound it makes. What a beautiful thing! angela

Todd, that reminds me of my old Fender Precision Sunburst.

If you keep practicing, some day you won't even need that extra string.
![]() Gorgeous. Like someone else said, it reminds me of my old sunburst P-bass. Speaking of vintage stuff, FWIW, I've spent several weeks now trying unsuccessfully to get tube home hi-fi equipment out of my head. Anybody got a spare McIntosh MC-275 lying around in the Goodwill pile?

Nice!
I play a Ernie Ball Stringray 5 that looks a lot like that...I've been playing 5 string for so long that I don't know what to do without the low B. The economy thanks you for spending $

If the recession wasn't personally kicking my ass, I would ask you to PM me a price for the Solid 4

well, you'd be in good company with a few ex-wives...
The Lull is nice in that it is a 5-string (which I am more comfortable with), but on first pass looks like an old P-bass. I don't have to hear comments from any bands about showing up with a "coffee table" bass ![]() |

Dude, most cool.
I am diligently saving my pennies for a new bass. I am going to choose the woods and parts from Warmoth and then have the Master Luther from the old Curbow shop put it together. It is going to be a wide spaced 5 string tuned for EADGC. I have a 6 string, and never use the B but I do use the high C and all that good stuff. Body will be Mahogany with a Cocobolo overlay verneer, stained with that red finish. Neck is Wenge with ebony finger board, fretted with dual truss rods for ULTIMATE stability. It's going to be freakin sick. |

Yeah - there are "twins" - fretted and fretless built from cuts from the same blank:
![]() ![]() resulting in: ![]() I'd be selling this one that I've had for 10 years (a buddy of mine has been bugging me to sell it to him since I bought it): ![]() ![]() |
