i hate tardiness!

my wife has a friend..that religious zealot chick. cute, but quirky as all get out. i have gotten into the routine of changing her motor oil in her prius. she drives 7000 miles every two months!! she lives several cities away, and has a 38 mile, bay area commute out to my place. i usually time it around dinner or lunch so the ladies can all catch up and yenta it up.

but she is rarely on time!! yesterday really irked me. my wife's family wanted to take us out for my wife's breakfast birthday thing. we politely declined because the zealot was showing up at my home at 1:00pm, and a late breakfast would have cut it to close. 1 passes, 2 oclock comes and goes, 3 oclock...poof! she shows up at 3:30 with a "sorry i'm late". and it started raining! EFF! i quickly change her oil. she knew i was annoyed so i let her have it. i told her i didnt appreciate her tardiness, and hated sitting around the house on my only free day waiting for her ass. my wife left me alone to blast her. i followed up with an email telling her that i feel her tardiness sends me a clear message, "her time is more important than my time!"

that is it..no more oil changes. she didnt even bring enough oil, and i had to dig into my stash. BS! done.

I agreed to help this time, because the zealot was on my wife's portland roadtrip and payed for 80% of my wife's expenses as a b-day gift. i did it for my wife.

Give her a $5 off coupon for Jiffy Lube. They don't care if you late, so long as you get their before quiting time.

When I was Chief Resident, I cured tardiness. We had morning report at 6:00 AM. We worked 36 hour shifts and got off work the following evening at 6:00 PM. You go home for 12 hours then pull another 36 hour shift. It works out to more than 110 hours/week.

The problem is that we can't get the day started till all 12 doctors show up. People would routinely show up late, screwing up everyone's day. After a stern warning, a chronically late second year resident showed up 15 minutes late with an attitude that DARED me to do something about it.

I announced that since there were 12 doctors who couldn't get started working because of her tardiness she had wasted 3 hours of doctor time (12 docs. 15 minutes each) I told her that she would not go home at 6:00 PM the following night but she would have to work till 9:00PM. I don't recall anyone being late again that year.

Yes, I'm a tyrant.

Ok Vash, the next time you come over to help me with the P-car, I will get out of bed a half hour earlier.

I had a professor in undergrad college that would occasionally lock the classroom door at the top of the hour when class was supposed to start.

Missed a pop quiz? Tough cookies.

I hate the cronic late folks. You are right, they think their time is more valuable than others. 2.5 hours late is just beyond late, it was deliberate & planned.

Wow, you're generous with your time

I haven't changed a strange girl's oil since college. It was sorta a quid pro quo thing. Same with moving their apartments. Guys with pickup trucks get suckered all the time by girls.

Back to oil changes, some dealers can do it for close to the cost of buying the oil retail, so it's not much of a money saver unless it's a car you care about, as opposed to an electric appliance.

An uncle was late for his shift on an ore carrier on Lake Superior. He got washed out of his bunk with a fire hose.

He was never late again.

Your first mistake was changing her oil the first time. Your second mistake was changing her oil the second time. Your third mistake was . . .

I used to be in charge of about 50 people at work. I would tell them once.....
If you come to work early, you're actually on time. If you come to work on time, you're actually late. If you come to work late, you're actually fired!
