i am sitting in Jury Assembly room.

man..i dont mind serving. but why do they need to make the process so hideous? it is slow, crowded. i am here because i had to postpone my last visit. in order to postpone, i sat in the waiting room for 7 hours, talked to the judge and was granted my postponement. now i am back. it is nothing more than, "hurry up and wait.."

hate this.

You are lucky. We were in a basement last time AND told to turn off all cellular phones, electronic devices. Books and magazines were OK.

The last time I had to show up for jury duty, we waited in the assembly room for about an hour. Then just before we got called up, I had the urge to do a #2. When they said if you need to use the restroom, you'd better do it now because there won't be another chance, I raised my hand. Held up the group for another 10 minutes.

My last time for jury duty I was ready with a good book. I sat down opened the cover & my name was the second name they called. There was still a lot of hurry up & wait.

The 1st time I was called for jury duty there was a good possibility I was going to be called for a murder trial. I figured I was just going to tell them to execute the the accused, it was obvoius she was guilty!

You know if the DA goes to the trouble and expense to bring someone to trial, they probably did it.

Is that jury tampering?

I have not been summoned for 15 years but my wife sees one every year. I guess they crossed my name off the list after I told them I was active duty military so many times.

Last couple times I was called that's about the exact thing I say when being interviewed..."Thank you but you're excused sir"

I saw a few try that. The judge said fine, we have a business trail on the docket that they are calling in the jury pool right now down the hall. Please proceed to court # xx.

I just tell the judge and attorneys that if police or experts are going to testify, the trial is biased. That's because officers and experts testify way more than John Q. Public, therefore, and because they are paid witnesses, testimony is not balanced.

May not be a shred of truth in that, but it's what I believe.

Oh, and there's the bit about a Fully Informed Jury.

The last jury selection I was a part of had a hilarious thing happen.
Selection was for a murder trial and there was NO CHANCE of the death penalty in this case. A life sentence was as severe as he could get.
They were asking the potential jurors if you had any objections, if he was found guilty, to sentencing somebody to life in prison.
One lady, of Chinese decent, said that she did have a problem with this.
When the court explained again that there was NO CHANCE of the capital punishment in this case, and asked her what her objection was and she said something like:
“I was raised in China where if you were found guilty of murder, you got the death penalty.”
The court again emphasized that there was NO CHANCE for the death penalty in this case.
She then stated that “If found guilty of murder, you SHOULD get the death penalty. I don’t think you use capital punishment enough here in America!”
The defense attorney decided that she may not be a good fit for his clients trial and dismissed her.

I served on a jury once, and had fun. Short trial, and after sending us to deliberate, I was elected jury forman in about 90 seconds.

Within about 20 minutes, everybody agreed with me.

Home in time for dinner.

Unfortunately our justice system is too much full of corruption, racism, for-profit motives, incompetence at every level, some police who will turn a innocent person guilty in the interregotation room - I'm not sure if I ever want to be a part of it.

My mom recently went through the jury selection, and got it out of it. The defendent was a black guy accused of murder - and he got an all white jury.
