Speed Racer

I found the complete series on DVD.

52 episodes.

I used to watch these as a kid.

Any of you?

Yep.

I loved the episode with the engine that was buried in a graveyard, cause it was too powerful and fast. And someone dug it up and installed it in a car. I think it also ended up in the Mach 5.

I just saw that episode.

The GRX motor. Sounded like a dragster.

I guess I was just not quite the right age to get into SR. I hated the stiff almost not quite sort of animation. I still hate that look. Bugs Bunny was way better

I found the complete set for $18 at Frys.

I'm having a good time.
My wife and I are watching them all together!

I watched it, but it wasn't my favorite.

The animation was lame. Yogi Bear, etc. had better.

What else was there?

I have a Speed Racer poster in the garage! Also have a James Dean poster, kind of reflects my somewhat eclectic taste.

I got the DVD set a few years ago as a present, but it only has 11 episodes... The case has a tire tread coating.

Go Speed Racer, Go!

The Mach 5 - F1 cars have nothing on his multifunction steering wheel:

Didn't he have a car alarm as well? Seemed to me he did - a bit before it's time!

My ex surprised me with this signed art from a cruise art auction several years ago. I also have the DVD's and some models. I remember watching every day after school.

Speed Racer was fun to watch growing up.

He made the best of what he had, liked helping others and was not a cheater.

The sounds effects in the cartoon were fun, too.

Lots of revving, skidding, squealing tires.
In watching the episodes now, I don't remember so many of the other drivers crashing and burning...

Not little fender benders. We're talking crashing through the armco and down ravines.

They never dwelt on the fact that other drivers were dying in nearly every episode.

I think we've watched about 1/3 of the episodes.

More tonight.

I loved Johhny Quest as well - never considered the 'man-love' angle between Johhnys Dad and Race until later on...

Damn you, Lube. I had never thought about that.

Sure it's just a coincidence.

Have any of you seen the extras on the Incredibles DVD? The producer, Brad.. talks about how ground-breaking jq was. On in prime time, showed people getting killed, and drawn by comic book illustrators--so you get the very bright colors and shading.

Fantastic and timeless. Cool tech, too, most of which has come and passed us.
