Neither. They were both opportunists, pure and simple.

A coupla years back I talked to Lee Silva who wrote Vol 1 of Wyatt Earp A Biography Of the Legend. This tome take you up through the cow town years. It doesn't seem that Lee will finish his 3 vol set.

Lees take on it was that Wyatt was hired by the Rail Road to rid AZ of the Cowboy Outlaw element. Lee also felt that Wyatt was an honest man at heart.

Another take was in an article in the American Rifle Man magazine, which was about a Colt Calvary SAA and the Troopers reminiscences of 1880's Tombstone. The Troopers take was that the Earp's were Pimps and Gamblers and as such were low life's.

well considering most of you have NEVER bean there, and as a native of this fine state and somewhat clued in to what really happened and the era............and having gone by, thru, stopped, spent the night, hunted more times than i can count...........honestly..........................

even on its best days it was a HELL HOLE!

plagued by apache depredations, hot weather, mines constantly flooding, really grouchy opium depraved, drunks, cattle rustlers, horse thieves etc. about the only thing it was good for was the silver until the mines completely flooded and the silver panic which stopped silver mining in its tracks.

tombstone was and is still a POO HOLE! and always will be a POO HOLE!

please read "TRUE WEST MAGAZINE" edited by our personal friend bob boze bell. he was hired on for the "historical" as well as "hysterical" side of how it really was for the val kilmer shoot of "TOMBSTONE". bell has researched fact and fiction for most of his life on tombstone and is held as the preeminent "last word" on the subject.

way too many dime store novels and worse yet very very poor historical research by hollywood up til vals film. about the ONLY REASON you would ever want to be there was the SILVER and the bucks to made from actually owning a mine or supplying said mine. 99% of the time it was the bars/whore houses/opium dens/hardware stores that made more money than the actual mines did.

if it were me back then on that fateful day...............well lets just say i would be BEHIND THE GALTLING GUN! because i just didnt like johnny ringos red sash and his crappy attitude.

vals movie is about the closest reenactment of the shootout and the events leading up to it aside from actually being there.

clanton and the rest of them got what they deserved. despite how law and order worked back then, earps were paid to collect all town fees, and bring in bad guys and supplemented their income by gambling.

actually just substitute missing "pink underwear" funds for gambling and its no damn different today.

Well, simple black and white positions, decisions or solutions are indicative of a simple mind.

The world and its problems are not simple.

The Swiss were in a very difficult position and made the best choice for themselves they could. They helped the Allies far more than they assisted the Nazis (except for the Swiss bankers).

After all, Poland, Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg, France, England (on the Continent), Denmark and Norway had all been defeated within a few short months by the Nazis.

It is so very easy to criticize someone's decision when you have no skin in the game.
