I was just about to start this thread. James and the rest, my sympathy. We always have our blessings, but it's hard to stay upbeat when things go south.

Take red-beard for example: he moves from CA to TX for a job opportunity. In his case, if I have the facts correct, he sells his CA house and buys a TX house. Then, some assbite company cans him after like one year. There oughta be a law.... I'd support a revolution. Seriously. |

FWIW (from a jackass) I would trade my promotion for your family. After all, jobs come and go (remember that). A family makes it worth the struggle. So congrats to you and hang in there.

I was laid off 08/01/08; fortunately, I had a 6 mo severance pkg.

I spent the rest of the summer figgering out what I really wanted to do! (Drinking beer & surfing porn wasn’t it!) Came to the realization I had no other skills other than my past professional employment. Finally my no bridge is ever burned policy paid off and by pure luck I walked ass backwards into a 3 year contract last Nov 1! I seriously feel for everyone suffering layoffs, keep your head up and chin high

My director constantly talks about doom and gloom and it scares everyone; expecially since I am a senior manager.

I CONSTANTLY think of what else to do that offers more security even it it means a little less money. For all of you that have already lost your jobs: I hope a bigger door opens again! When I have left previous jobs, I was pretty much done with that work anyway.....

Best wishes to all finding themselves in this position going into the new year. It sounds cliche but hopefully it can become an opportunity to try something new and lucrative. There are companies hiring out there - I just hired 6 people in the last few months although we are going into '09 with caution and cash reserves.
