Hey Docs. Need some advice for my Father.

My Father will be 75 in January. He has some joint pain in his knees, but it's manageable.

Lately he's been getting acute pain in his left calf after walking a short time (5-10 mins). He just had an MRI, X-rays and a circulation test done. According to his doctor, the results were inconclusive. The Doc recommended hose for his leg, to help circulation.

Any of you guys seen anything like this? Have any recommendations? He's done the tylenol/ibuprophen with little success. It's not his knee, but specifically the calf, so the arthritis treatments seem to be out.

Thanks in advance.

At this point, the real question is -- is it changing his life style?
What type of MRI, knee or mra of the legs?
I will say I am a radiologist- and when you are a hammer everything looks like a nail, but if this is significantly changing his lifestyle I would make an appointment with a vascular interventionalist- be it a rad or surgeon, and make sure it is not a plumbing problem they can fix.

Sounds like your father may have claudication, a blood supply issue. As others have recommended, he should at least see a vascular specialist (surgeon or interventionalist) for a proper work-up in a vascular lab.

Dad hasn't slept well for years, but that started when Mom passed 25 years ago. It's gotten better, but his sleeping still isn't great.

Thank you gents. I will let him know your recommendations.
