One of the gents that posts/posted on 356talk was an aerodynamics engineer, and he used a model of a '57 speedster as a "baseline" for his wind tunnel set up. One day, the baseline readings were much lower than normal... turns out the pin holding the model in place loosened enough to let it flip around backwards...

I thought that the aerodynamics were poor on the 928? it was the only thing the 924 was better at...

And I thought people only picked on the 911's aerodynamics.

Funny quote from the comments from that link in the OP:

Quote:
The 928 backwards is about as aerodynamic as Kari Byron would be... backwards.

Has anyone ever heard this myth?

I know I hadn't. I was just curious as to how this myth made that show.

According to everything I've read, the 928 shape is actually better in reverse than it is in forward. The 928 design was "design" first and then perfected in the wind tunnel. I suspect that many cars with fastback designs are like this.

The car they used in the video is some sort of gray market car- either an '80-'83 or an '84-'86. The difference is most notable in the distributor. You can tell it is gray due to the tacked-on side marker lights, and the original rear fog light low and to the left of the license plate.

N!

Wow those are some high numbers. It's amazing that it was the 'fastest production car in the world' at one point in time.

I drove one for about 6 months. (1991 model)
A friend was overseas for work and he asked me to look after it for him while he was gone.
He lived in an apparent complex and only had a car port to store it in so the car was at my house for those 6 months.

I don't mind saying it was one of the most memorable cars I've ever driven.
Exotic??? I don't know about that but truly a super car.

Now the kicker...

My neighbor, who has more money than sense let me drive his almost new Aston Martin recently.
Guess what?... The 928 drove better IMHO... Amazing when you think there's been 20 years of development between these two cars.

You shouldn't "bag" this car until you drive a good one.

The problem with so many of them now is that they are old and expensive to repair so they don't get the maintenance they need.

looks like a mid-engined 928, if everything else wasn't backward...

The 928 backwards is about as fun to drive as Kari Byron would be... backwards.
Look at the profile silhouette and then think about a wing profile.
I think it makes sense that it would be more aerodynamic in reverse, but only for a particular set of criteria. It seems to me that it would have a high lift factor.
But that is just my guess, and I am no aerodynamicist.

are you confusing aerodynamics with ground effects?
