Probably even more so if you consider this report was on the 4th day and the 3rd Battle of Ypres lasted another 3 months..
And it was indeed at colossal losses, both sides each lost between 200000 and 450000 men..
Historians aren't really sure how many died in this thing... If you think about it, between 3 and 6 men died, every minute, for 3 months long..

Funny.
I've been carrying around one of them little plasticized copies of my DD214 in my wallet for 40 odd years.
Nobody wanted to see it till after I retired.....go figure.
It's held up better than I have.

Next time you visit Lowes or Home Depot, show them your DD214 and get a 10% discount.

Ian, that's very interesting to read. That must have a special place on your wall.

Today is a little more poignant for me this year. I'm just finishing The Stone Carvers by Jane Urquhart. It's an exceptional book that ends up with a Canadian soldier who lost a leg at the battle of Vimy Ridge and is brought back (unwillingly) by his sister to help carve the massive memorial. It's a different viewpoint of the war, and more about the characters than the war, but is a phenomenal read.

I didn't know that, thanks. I spend a fair amount at HD.

Don't much care for the local Lowes. I could empty my shotgun in there & never hit the hired help......well. maybe at the check out counter.
