Sounds immoral, if not illegal.

You didn't hear it from me... But get on the Pirate bay....

Sharing music with friends is not illegal... Which is how torrent sites stay up....

Yea Joe... I don't know what your internet experience level is... but...

people don't do this.

Not like you're describing. Maybe with friends in your town... but... not... like... this.

Go torrent files if you want music... but this board isn't for such things.

It's like the carfax thing. You are a guest on this website, and you are soliciting people to commit a crime with you. It doesn't matter if it's only "sort of illegal", it's still illegal. Email your friends, don't post it on here.

Of course "sharing", as in listening to music with your friends, is not illegal. "Sharing" when you give it to them to record their own copy is.

I find it dissapointing that otherwise honest, moral people seem to have no trouble stealing others' work as long as it's "just music". Of course, then again, maybe that's a clear indication that they are not otherwise honest and moral.

Character is defined by what you do when no one is watching, and what you do when you can't get "caught". I think we just had a peak at a couple of Pelicans' character...

So a friend has never burned you a copy of the latest CD they got? Right......

You know I wouldn't have a problem paying a small fee if most of that was going to the artist, but with such a huge percentage of the money going to the big music companies I don't give a rats ass. I download the albums that have a reasonably priced digital or hard copy release. *BHTM* If you want to really understand why people torrent or what is seen to be wrong with the RIAA, go lookup Trent Reznors thoughts on the subject. He is quoted as telling his fans to "just ******* steal it" when he heard what they were charging for one of his albums in AU.

Joe... you're one of those people who just aren't 'good enough' at 'the internet' to understand how such things work. That is why you get viruses.

You should never be going to websites to download music. Unless it's iTunes and you're paying for it.

Otherwise... theres this thing called BitTorrent (mentioned above, numerous times probably).

Educate yourself. It's not the internet's fault you get viruses. It's yours.

So, don't ever speed, and check your bumper height, and other equipment to ensure compliance with the LAW!

. . .damn it

Cartoon Character

On a more serious note .. . why is it that the music industry is allowed such a HUGE monopoly on any one of their MANY 'inventions'? And, such an easy path to legal protection of that song/'invention.'

I mean, let's say that Jeff invents and engineers a Flux capacitor, which solves all of our energy needs. He would face one long and expensive process to get patent protection . . . and then that would last only a few years.

Contrast that with say Michael Jackson buying the rights to a bunch of FREAKING SONGS from that 1960's band, the Beatles . . . as they continue to have copy protection.

Apparently society believes that songs and jingles are always the greatest invention EVARrrrr. . ..

OTOH, I don't even think that music is worth the hassle of managing it all. (hello radio)

carry on. . ..

Volume is a key contributor in whether or not you get a letter.

A couple of files here and there are not going to get noticed.

You start "sharing" GB's of files and the probability that you get sued goes up.

If you were into the satellite hacking thing in the late 90's you'll remember how Direct TV went after the sites that were selling equipment to facilitate card writing.

They would make a deal with the site owner to dismiss or reduce the civil penalty in exchange for control of the site which they would continue to operate giving them a big fat list of people to go after for stealing the service.

Pay for your content. It's the right thing to do.

Rather than steal music, or buy from iTunes, I just listen to anything I feel like on YouTube. It's easy, it has almost everything I would listen to, and it's legal. It's legal because of the little ads you have to endure now and then.

Same goes with Pandora. Legal and high quality..

Why don't you pop a Xanax and chill dude. Just because you have been on the forums forever doesn't mean you know jack diddly about the rest of the Internet.

I always get a chuckle from the "justifications" thieves resort to in an attempt to make themselves feel better about their theft. Big music companies are evil, so it's o.k. to steal from them, yadda yadda yadda...

I'm pretty up front about my speeding, and it doesn't take money out of someone's pocket. As a matter of fact, it puts money into others' pockets.

Anyone who is unable to discern the moral differences between speed laws and copywrite laws probably struggles with other distinctions as well, like the differences between copywrite, trademark, and patent law. Oh wait...

But Jeff, art isn't important. Artists and musicians provide no real benefit to society, so they don't deserve to get paid.

Besides, *anyone* can write songs, tv shows or movies...

Apparently you do not understand the goal of protectionist laws. They are all to encourage the production and distribution of new product/ideas/art...

The Point, that you so conveniently miss, is that; while artists get protection for their work, that protection is eccentric with respect to it's societal value.
