Henry Rifles
I have lately been hankering for a hunting piece that has the quality & cachet that I value in most mechanical things.
Discovered these. Seem to be unique in a number of ways and not outrageously expensive. Any personal experiences, views, opinions, etc. out there? OF COURSE THERE ARE!!! Note: Considering the Big Boy, .357 magnum as I have a pistol to match, and adding a scope..

The Henry rifles seem overly heavy to me..... I'd go Marlin...

yup that new marlin is very nice. with a scout-style mounted scope, it would be awesome for controlled zombie blasting.

Henry rifles have a poor reputation among serious lever gun fans. Every one I have handled has felt like cheap junk to me, particularly their rimfires. Stick with Marlin for new, or Marlin and Winchester for used.

I shot my friends lever action .22 last week. It looked pretty and the action was smooth. I did not like the white metal showing inside the action when open (receiver is black painted zinc alloy). The trigger was super-creepy. I decide then and there I would not be happy with it. I'll be getting my kids something else, like a Marlin. My 9422 is super nice but on the used market they are around $800!

Good advise here, thanks guys. I will be checking out the Marlins over the holiday weekend. They apparently have a Stainless Steel version of their big bore models also. Sounds practical and only 6 pounds!!

I'm a big fan of Marlin lever guns. I've owned an example of pretty much every model over the years. The current inventory includes a '50's vintage 39A Mountie, a mid '90's vintage 1994 Cowboy in .45 Colt, and a late '80's vintage 1895 in .45-70. All wear XS Sight Systems "ghost ring" aperture sights.
I've owned a number of Winchesters as well. 1873's, 1892's, 1894's, and an 1886 (the only one I actually miss). I'm not a big fan of the Winchester lever guns, although their Model 70 is my all-time favorite bolt gun. Make no mistake, their lever guns are all quality guns that will last several lifetimes (my '73 and '94 actually had, come to think of it), I just prefer the Marlin. You really can't fo wrong with either, though.

Another vote for Marlin, an early one if possible.

I have a model 94, made in '49 and a Marlin AS30.
Both fine weapons. I recommend either if 30 30 is the round you need for the job. Buddy of mine showed me his .22 Henry the other day. Pretty thing but heavy. |

if i were YOU i would haul azz to find ANY MARLIN made in north haven as they have been purchased by cerebus capital holdings aka remington. all hand fitted parts WILL become MIM(metal injection molded) parts and put together by retarded minkees(monkees).
i have been tooting my horn on this and will laugh when its all said and done. we got wind of this a while back, therefore being the dirty rotten scoundrels we are.......... 1) 1895 XLR 45/70 stainless 26" barrel 2) 1895 GS 45/70 stainless 18.5" barrel 3) 1894 SS .44 mag stainless 18.5" barrel 4) 1894 CSS .357 mag stainless 18.5" barrel the only one not buttered up and foo foo'd is the 1895GS which i havent even had a chance to shoot yet. when i say "buttered" up , i mean a nelson ford(thegunsmith.com) action job where all ya need is (1) finger to lever a round IN or OUT of the action. on the other (3) we have added brownells chrome silicone mag tube springs, wild west guns alum. mag tube follower. if i find a stainless .30/.30 (like i need another) i will probably buy it and just leave it NIB unfired for some rainy day. grab any while you can made in north haven, conn. by the way north haven is OFFICIALLY CLOSED and all calls are being taken in n. carolina. wild west guns brockmans are some of the gurus of lever actions. especially big bore dangerous game levers.

Browning makes a nice Lever gun as well. I have shot one of the .22 and fell in love with it. Great guns.
