Body scanners, I can see what the fuss is about....
I am all for safety when flying but if this is really true, I can see why people would object.
I would opt for the manual search too. Inverted Body Scanner Image Shows Naked Body In Full Living Color ![]() (EDIT: This picture appears to be fake: see Aigels post #12) ![]() ![]()

Damn you're right.
I hope the pic is low-res enough. If not, mods feel free to delete.

I don't get it what's the problem?

I have a difficult time caring about this.
Perhaps it would make people feel better if the images are viewed by personnel in another room. And, if you're so privacy concerned, why is it preferable to be physically felt down? |

Do you have children?
A daughter perhaps? Would you be comfortable knowing that she is being viewed naked by a stranger every time she passes security in an airport? Knowing that it takes only one pervert or pedophile to get those images and invert them... If you can't see the problem, can you understand that other people would?

I've been padded down before in airports, thoroughly (not naked). There is nothing remotely erotic about it. The guy that does the search does touch your privates, briefly... He does not have the time after I have left to re-examine pictures of my naked body. Don't kid yourself by saying that those images will not be saved. If it is true and they can be inverted and show people naked, I'd opt for a pad down, every time.

Two things are definitely going to happen as a result of these being implemented:
1. Some pent-up, god-complex TSA dickwad is going to end up posting some photos of someone on the Internet or passing them around the breakroom and will get busted for it. When this happens, all holy hell is going to break loose about the program. 2. There will be a few "discoveries" of contraband/prohibited items found in the next few months to prove how useful these systems are and how they're "keeping everyone safe". Naturally these will be plants designed to justify the TSA's continued existence. This is sadly the beginning of the end of the commercial aviation industry as we know it. Al Qaeda has won.

How about everyone arrives early disrobe in a private room and issued pajamas a robe and slippers to fly in. You get your clothes back at the end of the flight.

The photo of the attractive lady is sourced from a german paper "BILD" which is a tabloid like the SUN or the Enquirer.
Pregnancy intimate piercings genitals - What can the naked scanner really see - News - Bild.de On the BILD web page they reference the photo source being phtotaltof1online. Only problem is that BILD apparently manipulated the image. photoaltof1online is just a picture service where you can buy many other images of people, including this lady in tons of different poses. Lo and behold, here is the regular pic of the lady that was manipulated. F1online - stock photo agency - CD: Body in 360° (Dominique Douieb), PhotoAlto So, conclusion is that the image of the attractive lady is NOT from a body scanner. This is also clearly the case because her HAIR is visible in the alleged body scanner image. Hair is transparent in those machines - see the image of the less attractive lady (she is the CEO of one of the major scanner companies BTW) That lady is not bald rather than her hair is transparent to the scanner just like a wool sweater would be. I am not a blogger or a journalist and this took only 10 minutes to figure out. Sad what's going around the interwebs these days. ![]() George Last edited by aigel; 11-18-2010 at 10:57 PM.. |

And all this because we're too squeamish to admit if we focused our efforts on MUSLIM MEN AGED 18-35 we'd probably have more success.
Or if we implemented (not-so) random interrogations of passengers El-Al style where they pull you aside and grill you about who you are, where you're going, what your travel plans are, etc. I say PROFILE AWAY rather than resorting to this kind of nonsense. Nope, rather than risk "offending" someone or hurting their widdle feewings, we have to go implement the most expensive possible, ineffective solution. And the fact that the company making these scanners is owned to a large extent by former TSA chief Michael Chertoff has nothing to do with this either, right?

I deleted the direct fed image and gave the lady a bikini and uploaded her for you, so she can hang around.

You are correct! First picure is fake. I did not know or I would not have put it up.
I won't remove it but I will indicate that it is not a real scanner picture. It does seem probable to me that those body scanners will have different settings like x-ray machines, to show a variety of materials, organic, non organic.... Could be that some of those settings will show a more realistic image of the person scanned. Still opting for a pad down if I have a choice.

This AIT screening is BULLSCHEIZE! This is total crap, and yours truly will have NOTHING to do with it!
[The difference between me and you: I have a union, known as ALPA [www.alpa.org] behind me.] I'm not going through that machine ever. I flew through Memphis airport last Monday en route to Fort Lauderdale. Typically my ID gains me instant access to the front of the line, and this time was no different. Instead of the AIT I went through the regular metal detector. Folks...this is RIDICULOUS! I stood there, placing my Mac laptop in sleeve into the gray plastic tray, while some woman about 80 years old stood in the imaging machine with her arms raised like a crook on COPS! -What idiot came up with this silliness? I could make a political statement right now, but I won't because the stupid actions of the TSA are so far out of bounds that it transcends politics. This new AIT screening system is something that I will refuse, even as a crewmember in uniform. ALPA is right behind me. If I refuse the AIT, and wind up missing my scheduled flight, then my airline CANNOT fire me, due to my union contract. That is the beauty of a union- it forces employers to treat you right, and removes their ability to fire you for stupid reasons. N! Last edited by Normy; 11-18-2010 at 11:40 PM.. |

Norm,
Why do think it is BS? Just because an old lady had to go through it?? I've heard on the news over here that a lot of pilots are against it. Is this for privacy issues also? Or is there another reason why pilots in specific are against it?? I would reckon that pilots would welcome the added security measure. (Personally, my beef is with security personel(strangers) seeing other people naked and the possibility of saved images, the lack of personal privacy)

Fk unions, Fk ALPA and for that matter, fk you. You're a disgrace to the community of professional pilots. If you want to not do your job, then just quit.
A bit part of being a professional pilot (and I know, as I used to fly for a living too, proudly non-union thank you very much) is following rules and regulations - even stupid ones, because if you don't peoples' lives are on the line. So if you want to go off on a crusade about how flight crews should be exempted from this, fine - do it on your own time and your own dime, not your employer's you deadbeat. Here's a news flash - it's not just "all about you".
