Lost my best friend today

Everyday for 10 years wheneven I got home she was there to greet me. Always happy, always wagging her tail. Today, nothing. I got home and she was not waiting for me. She was 10 years old, a sweet doberman and she never met a person she did not like. She died this morning. She woke up, had her breakfast, ran outside and played. When she came in, she lay down downstairs as my wife and youngest son played and watched TV and never woke up. The last few months were hard on her. Her hind legs were giving her trouble. I took her to the vets, got her medicine and she was her energetic self again. Her name was Maya.
I brought her home when she was just a little puppy. I can remember her running up and down the hallway. She was always, always by my side. She was here when I brought my kids home from the hospital. She loved the kids. She was asleep next to my bed every morning. When she was little, she would fall asleep on my feet. She was an amazing member of our family. We all cried. I wish I had patted her head this morning on my way out but she was asleep next to my bed.

Sorry for your loss. Be comforted that you didn't have to make "the trip" to put her down...

Terribly sorry for your loss of Maya.
I know the pain you are enduring as my constant stable friend passed after 16 years 5 months ago> I will not lie it is hard and takes time for the tears to dry.
Look for her as she is still with you.

Sorry to hear this and may she live on in your heart.

I lost two wonderful companions of my own - one last year, the other a few months prior. It still hurts but the best thing you can do now is make sure to never forget them. Another new companion will come along to help you - they always do. It's like they can sense there's a kind and loving person there and they won't let that go to waste!

Some people just can't or don't realize how our animal companions can be every bit as much a part of our lives and families as humans. I get that. I'm truly sorry for you and wish you the best in getting through the worst - the first few days.

Talladega and Sasha (our 2 Dobies) send their tail wags your way. Well their tails have been docked but you get the idea. I'm dreading the day you just had but we will always remember the good ones.

My deepest sympathies for your loss. One of the saddest days of my life was having to put down my 12 year old Malamute.

losing a pet is one of the hardest things. i suppose they always think that we are the best and act the same. sorry but you can take some satisfaction in the fact that she was loved and well cared for....something that lots of dogs really never experience..

I'm so sorry, Mike. Maya was a good dog as she didn't try to eat me the first time I met her. She seemed like a great family dog.

I'm glad she went peacefully. RIP Maya.

I am sorry to hear about the loss of your best friend. She passed peacefully which is a godsend for her. Unfortunately 10 years is all too young. She will reside in your heart forever. R.I.P. Maya
