Comment on microminiaturization
My new stereo is 1/10 the size of my old stereo. I can almost fit it in my pocket.
My new car key is 10 times the size of my old car key. I can barely fit it in my pocket.

the solution is obvious: use your stereo to start your car

Reminds me of when a friend told me ford did a great job on his new aerostar to make it lighter to save fuel.I was over to his shop one day and he had the dash light dimmer switch out, It had to weigh two pounds.

ok, try this alternative:
dump your car and the key buy an old used car (before they added the column interlocks) to make it even lighter, hot wire the ignition and leave 2 wires hanging; throw out the door & trunk locks (more wt. savings) & throw away the key |

I was able to disable the column interlock (I seem to be able to disable lottsa things - usually to my dismay) and installed the lock from my old car.
The car would not start and a message in some wierd Gothic script popped up on the LCD scrreen in the dash that said, "Adjust carburettor".

smash the LCD screen with a hammer
keep the hammer in the car; it may come in handy later on |

The wierd Gothic message disappeared. But the smashed screen still fickers and is now flashing, "Check hammer". I used a ball peen hammer. Should I whack it again with a claw hammer? Or is it too late for that? The car still won't start. I rolled it backwards out of the garage and down the driveway and let out the clutch. That didn't work either. And I think I screwed up the steering when I disabled the interlock thing because it steered all wonky and now it's ass end into a ditch at the end of my driveway.

The ball peen hammer was a good start, but you need to use a larger hammer. Get a BFH, perhaps a 12 pound sledge (although there might not be enough room to swing it properly inside the car, you may have to remove the roof). Several blows with a BFH should end the annoying message on the screen. YRMV Les

Outhink it.
Ask it "What is the meaning of "what"?" The logical answer would be "what?", which will put it in an endless loop in time for your escape and collection of shrubbery. |

I'll try that, if it comes down to it.
Re needing a bigger bal peen hammer, I found this on the internet, printed it out and took it into a Ball Peen Hammers Plus store (there's one not far from me). I showed it to the kid behind the counter and asked if they sold an analog version. He told me they quit making those years ago. I was dumbfounded! The kid looked at me over the counter and said, "You look purple ex'd." I didn't like the tone of his voice, so I turned around and left. What does purple ex'd mean? I'm going to try Graig's List to see if I can find a plain old, used BFBPH. Screw that digital crap! That's how I ended up in this situation to begin with. ![]()

sledge is a good start, but if you think clearly about your overall goals, you will realize that you are really trying to go back in time, like an anarchist - ok, green anarchist, anyway
so, to move the car back in time, you would preferentially use a STONE HAMMER you can use your stone hand chopper to cut a branch off for the handle and remove the bark ride a horse down to the river to look for stones & pick out a nice big oblong one; then use some rawhide strips (that yer woman has prepared by pulling the deer skin thru her teeth) to bind the stone onto the handle soak it in water (try THAT with yer fancy iron!) and let dry to tighten it all up Bingo! you are ready this is what Caveman Clem does to adjust his carb-O-raters and it works GREAT! |
