Guitar builders question
Does the skew of the pickup effect the sound, is there any reason for putting (the bridge pickup usually) crooked?
like so ![]() vs the standard inline with the neck.

Yes it does. Having it slanted will give the highs more "highs" do to that part being closer to the bridge, and the low more "lows" due to being farther from the bridge.
Same principle as a strat or Tele bridge pickup.

Looks like an old Kramer. IIRC, EVH was the one who started doing that with humbuckers.

I always thought it was so that the pole pieces would be centered under the string.

Lots of discussion about this in bass-land. There are pages of arguments about regular P vs. reverse P. The theory is that reverse P (magnets for the D and G string) gives a fatter sound to those thinner strings. Regular P should do the opposite. I don't have any reverse P as I find regular P just fine. Roscoe angles the pups on their LG series basses but they'll admit that it mostly is for looks, and they will make them straight for special orders (and are straight on their SKB and Century models).

And as a total novice, I thought it put the pick up under the center of sine wave.

Wolfe, it would probably be easier for you, than me, but how about setting up a demo? It shouldn't be too hard to setup a quick "log" guitar and move a pickup around.
Hmm, I have that spare neck for the LP project. I bet I could whip something up on Sunday.

No room in the new shop to use any tools to build such a thing, either ![]() LSA.. I seem to remember hearing about some pickups that were built for slant, but it's been so long I can't be sure about it. Gibson Nighthawks, maybe...
