Drive. Got my 84 in FL while
Living in NY. My brother who lives in FL drove it up and had a blast. 3 years ago he bought a 964 in CA and drove it back to FL. |
If it were me I'd go with the new tire route. You're going to do it anyway - you can order them from Tire Rack and have them shipped to a shop close to the seller.

Here's me taking the '69 912 across the country. 2300 miles in 3 days. I believe this was taken in Utah off of I-80.
....bought the car, flew out, drove it home... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1291168354.jpg |
That's an easy drive. Just last week I drove my 930 from Austria to The Netherlands though all sorts of weather including snow.
|
+993 for new tires then drive it.
I drove my '89 targa from SF to Eastern Oregon. Best way to get acquainted! |
Hit the road, Jack!..
Hell, Evren & Ruki bought a car (1971 911E) they'd never seen, had it worked on in a shop they'd never been to. Then they hopped on a Jet, flew to Portland, Oregon from Istanbul. From Portland they drove the car to Ft. Lauderdale Florida, had it shipped to Turkey. The car gave them no major problems...the biggest one was a trunk lid that kept popping up. Solved by the roll of duct tape I placed in the "road kit" of tools & spares I'd put together for them |
I spit on 450 miles!!!!

buy tires once you're there, (Discount Tire of course) enjoy the ride.
Remember to track your oil usage during the trip too. By the time you get back you'll know. PS- I just moved to LV and DROVE two vehicles from seattle 1300 miles, 2x in 2 weeks. One of which was with an overloaded trailer behind my S10. drive it. rjp |
Back in 2007, i drove my '74 911 to FL and back (from Detroit) and put 3600 miles on the car in 6 days. That many miles in that period of time really killed my back, but I would do it again, I would limit my driving to 400-500 miles per day, though. Drive it, have fun and be safe!

drive!
and post your adventure here: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1291173388.jpg check the date codes on the tires & see what did the PPI, maint. rec.s say re fluid changes? |

vice grips zip over to the 1st store you see & pick up an emergency kit |
Drive, it's a no-brainer. As suggested, find the nearest tire store and order the tires of your choice, then stop at Walmart for a simple tool kit. You'll have a blast!

Drive it!
When I bought my 930 in 2000 I went from Memphis TN to Atlanta GA to Charlotte NC to Charleston SC. The side trip to Charlotte was so I could show the car to the wife and kids while I was working in Charleston. |
Where you driving from? The only thing a little scary about the trip is if you end up somewhere without cell phone service.
Heck, if you break down I'll come and get you! |
I flew to Austin to pick up my 318ti, the fuel pump went out just outside of Dallas. My 6 year old son and I had to wait 6 hours for my wife to drive down so we could haul the car back on a trailer. It was quality adventure, he still talks about it.:)

PPI said the following:
Needs cam tensioner hoses (not leaking just looked worn) Oil tank hose slight leak Seeps at oil return tubes Right outer CV joint needs a clamp Play in shifter bushings No catalytic converter Otherwise checked out good. |
Big difference in 10 year old tires on a car stored inside vs. outside.
Drive it! I drove mine 3000 miles home. |
