Egli-Vincent

I grew up in awe of these machines; there were a couple in the Seattle area in the '70's. This one is for sale.

Vincent : Egli Black Shadow - eBay (item 320621913233 end time Dec-04-10 13:13:29 PST)

I may be wrong, but wasn't this bike on Top Gear noting it was the fastest motorcycle in its time? Driven by Hammond

May had a Jag XK120 and a Clarkson was shoveling coal on the train.

Nice, but $36k for a bike with JC Whitney headlight mounts? I'll have to pass.

Wonder what it will go for, 36k, the current bid, is cheap. I would like to have that in my living room.

$36k is less than a third of what it is worth.

It's "worth" whatever someone will pay for it.

(edit) it appears that the Doctor was calling the Egli the Black Shadow and not referring to the earlier model.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: A Savage Journey to the Heart of the American Dream (1970)
[At the Polo Lounge in Beverly Hills, planning to cover the Mint 400 Desert Race in Las Vegas]

"Well," he said, "as your attorney I advise you to buy a motorcycle. How else can you cover a thing like this righteously?"

"No way," I said. "Where can we get hold of a Vincent Black Shadow?"

"Whats that?"

"A fantastic bike," I said. "The new model is something like two thousand cubic inches, developing two hundred brake-horsepower at four thousand revolutions per minute on a magnesium frame with two styrofoam seats and a total curb weight of exactly two hundred pounds."

"That sounds about right for this gig," he said.

"It is," I assured him. "The ****er's not much for turning, but it's pure hell on the straightaway. It'll outrun the F-111 until takeoff."

"Takeoff?" he said. "Can we handle that much torque?"

"Absolutely," I said. "I'll call New York for some cash."
