You can pick up a good M8 for about $2,200. An upgraded M8 (updated shutter) or M8.2 closer to $3,000. (USD ~ They all record total actuations of the shutter)

Don't look on EBay. Try and find a local camera shop that will stand behind what they sell.
They do go wrong and there have been some common issue well documented in various forums.

Another excellent source of Leica's is: LUG Info Page

This is the Leica Users Group and they have a "flea market" on the email list every Friday. Picked up my last two Leica's there at a very good price.
