That early 2000s S8 is one of the most beautiful cars ever available to the public, IMO. It's on my short-list, especially since they are under-rated and cheap on the used car market. They are not only better-looking/driving and just generally a lot cooler than other big euro sedans, they are so much less common. You cannot swing a dead cat w/o hitting an S-class MB in Los Angeles.
I have a pal with the newer S8 in black with some tasteful black BBS-type rims, I consider it nothing less than an expression of good taste.

I must be the Lou - I Consider Myself The Luckiest Man on the Face of the Earth - Gehrig of VW/Audi owners. This morning I feared the streak had ended. One of my employees called and said his '04 Jetta diesel wouldn't start and had a check engine light on. Oh well I thought, I got 250,000 trouble-free miles out it. Later, the dealer called and said there was a small malfunction in a wiring connector

I have an 05 S4 V8 with 6spd It's currently got 117k trouble free miles on it and working well.
It's fun and thirsty. I've been a Porsche tech for thirty years and wouldn't even think of touching this car with a tool in hand. DIY it ain't. Luckily I've got a great Audi tech who loves 'em.

On two occasions I've come close to buying an S8, one day I'll make it happen. I agree with the others, they just look "right".
