I feel so guilty.

Our office manager just came by and was asking me what was in the beat up box she had delivered earlier. I had already explained that it was a 'gift' and I said that I didn't know, I was waiting till Christmas to open it.

Well, she went on about how she would never be able to do that. And wow, how much will power I had to have this box on my desk unopened.

You probably know where this is going... I couldn't help myself... I wanted to see if the contents of my beat up box had survived, and they did.

I opened it to find:
1) Pelican T-shirt and stickers
2) Speed Racer hat
3) Slightly bent exhaust valve
4) 1983 928S Go Bot.
5) "ARIZONA" license plate.

WOW, A big thank you! The exhaust valve will go on my desk. The 928? Well maybe... and the rest will be put to good use in the garage and otherwise.

Thanks again.

BAD Pelican.

Just think what a bad example you set for that coworker.

And the rest of PPOT.

People are gonna be "losing their willpower" all over the place, now.

Thanks to you, most of the gifts that have been received will probably be opened before Monday.

Everybody make a note of this... 71T Targa will have to sit out next year.

The license plate is a "real" one, not a novelty item. They are sold as samples to independent tag/title locations. Not sure how they got there but I found three of them at my local Goodwill a while back.

Too bad Joel has to send it all back for a simple violation of the rules. Make sure you use a sturdy box!

I promise that next year I'll wait until Christmas. I'm pretty sure I'm not the first to have opened their gift either.

I went back to the rules:

4. Gift should arrive to recipient by Christmas. Gift is not supposed to be opened (unless there are extenuating circumstances) until Christmas.

I'm sure that the goating by my office manager constitutes "extenuating circumstances"

IIRC, last year it was a very good thing you broke the rules

Otherwise we might not be holding the gift exchange this year.

You could just leave the Gobot on your desk in the form pictured below and then impress people when you fold it up into a Porsche... even if it is a 928. I was sort of hoping my target was a 928 fan. Oh well, just regift it next year. It can become the roaming GoBot.

Man.. I miss doing Secret Santa things...
On a forum I used to belong to, we used to do it every year. Shortly before it would get set up, I'd start some guitar threads to feel out who they players were and what kind of music they played.
Then I'd go through the list of the people who joined the SS group to see if any of them were also players. A message to the organizer usually set things up, and someone would get guitar pickups made for them.
Last time I did it, was a younger kid who's family was pretty broke... he had a guitar, but no amp. He got pickups, and one of my amps. Still uses it today, almost 12 years later.

This gives me a good idea for next year--my car came with a blue CA plate. Maybe my draw next year will be from CA (again)?

The Go Bot is on my desk, and my kid has already played with it when he came in to visit after school Friday. I think it has found it's home.
