Eatin P+ Ammo wit my spoon.....Question.

If you had a mid 80's built S&W Model 49 (.38 special) revolving spoon would you have a problem loading P+ ammo into it?

I just kind of inherited this gun and I'm wondering if I can pop these rounds in?

I agree, what do you really gain by using a hotter load? Are you going bear hunting? For self defense or shooting at the range a regular 38 special round will suffice.

If you are set on wanting to shoot +p just sell your old one and get a newer model that is factory approved for it. The 80s model should sell for good money.

No internal safeties / locks. I was going to carry it concealed. I typically seek out the hottest rounds for carry. If you're gonna do it, do it right.

I don't want to sell it, I'll keep it. Just wanted to see if anyone has experience with modern rounds.

Well, if you go read the link I sent, the guys are speculating that it will take it fine since the newer Al frame revolvers are rated for the P+. Unfortunately none of them has tried it. If you don't practice with the hot rounds extensively it appears most people think it is fine. Of course the manufacturer will not recommend it due to liability (and marketing).

But back to my first argument, I don't think you need hotter than .38 special for self defense, unless you are planning on shooting through your door.

Yep, typical MFR disclaimer. I'll probably run a few rounds thru and see what happens.

Besides, there are plenty boxes of standard .38 special all over this place. I got my hands on my dad's remaining carry stash since he isn't in any shape to handle firearms anymore.

This, a S&W 411 (big bulky .40 cal- feels like it's made of legos) and a ruger 10/22

Why bother risking it?

You can run Buffalo Bore .380 ACP in a Kel-Tec P3AT. Makes the same size hole, is a LOT more concealable, and has about the same energy as .38sp +P.

There's a reason police departments don't use .38sp anymore.

1st i would get a "FREE" owners manual from S&W. call 1800 I NEED A OWNERS MANUAL NOW BEFORE I BLOW MYSELF OR OTHERS UP!





then........................i would look up that model number,and it will SAY what IT WILL SHOOT ....................SAFELY!

Hell, it was a FREE gun y'all. It's the smallest gun I own at the moment. Everything else I have (commanders) will make me look like Dirk Diggler if I conceal

(it's pretty close as is with me I'll look like I'm packin 2 if u know what I mean )

FOr the record smith sez it hasn't been tested with +P ammo and therefore it isn't reccomended.

PS It's not like it's my duty gun or anything, who does drive bys with 5 shots anyhow? Everyone knows you need 8 at least.
