True Grit
Going to see the Coen Brothers new release of True Grit tonite. Watched the 1969 version last night on DVD. The critics are saying the new one is much better. The old one was pretty damn good.

It looks good, I like most of the Coen movies...No Country for Old Men was fantastic. I will have to go see this.

The previews look great. It should be a good movie.

Not enough John Wayne types anymore. He represented what made this country great.
Hopefully the remake won't tarnish that. Hard to imagine the big lebowski doing John Wayne as I hate everything the big lebowski depicted. Last edited by sammyg2; 12-22-2010 at 02:26 PM.. |

When will they run out of movies to remake and be forced to become original again? What was so wrong with the original True Grit that it needs to be remade?

Seems most books are better than the movies and original movies are better than the remakes.

"What was so wrong with the original True Grit that it needs to be remade?"
The answer is "Nothing". The reason is churn for money. There is nothing new anymore. Everything that ever was is now being recycled. I believe the best movies were in black and white. "Special Effects" were the beginning of the end of the story and the beginning of the "visual".

I read the book, and saw the movie. I may check this out, but it would be hard to top the excitement of this movie when I was a Kid, and John Wayne was The Man.
The book was awesome. I could barely stand it when she was down with the snakes. The most exciting book I had ever read, up to that time. |

He was purty darn good in Wild Bill. I would recommend that movie if you haven't seen it.
