New paint on my 1983 Westfalia

I know some of you appreciate the old VW campers. I just got mine painted. It's now harvest moon beige, a new beetle color. Here are one before and a few after pics.

I met a retired couple touring the country in one of these (can't imagine what they're spending on fuel):

One of these are in my future. Tough to find in the US, though...may have to go to CA:

Interesting, my retirement plan was something similar, load up a VW van in july with mountain bikes, kayaks, snowboard/skis and leave for a year traveling the US and Canada. Of course Im 33 so its a little ways off.

ITs a very nice van, very cool.

That's more of a semi-gloss black on the window pillars. Cost? $8K. As you can see, it was quite rusty. There were holes around the windshield and under the luggage rack up top. The interior was painted as well, and the price included window tinting and a new windshield. The price was pretty reasonable, considering, especially for the Bay Area.

I don't have pics of the interior, but the interior is rather average right now. Next is a hardwood floor in the middle and new carpets.

Zef, I've been from Alaska to Florida and San Diego to New Brunswick in a westy, so it is very doable and comfortable.

Danny, if you really want a Doka, it's easiest to find one in Europe and ship it over, as nice examples already here in the US rarely come up for sale.

Looks very nice, subtly "updated" with the new window trim, signal, etc.

Did you have inside and out painted, or maybe not as the colors look similar enough? Was the pop-top painted?

My Westy (89) is my least favorite Westy color, dark gray. Alas. I wish it were a color like yours.

I had inside and outside painted, inlcuding the pop-top, all harvset moon beige, which is close to the original, but still noticeably different.

The inside was painted just where the paint is readily visible. You will see the old color if you lift the rear seat and lift up a corner of carpet. It's not a show car, so it's not a big deal. You could do the same. I like the dark gray, it's kind of classy.

?

I am doing my Van now.
The top needs to be cleaned and painted. This is how I found your post. I was looking around for info on painting the top.
When I saw your bumpers, I was in ahhh. Where did they come from?
What type of paint and prep was used on the Tops?
