advice needed!! really really old Cognac!

here is what i have. i got two bottles of REMY Martin cognac. VSOP. the bottles were bought over in mexico about 40 years ago, and have been stored in a dark closet at my stepdad's various restaurants.. boxes are intact and the bottles look properly sealed.

here is the crazy one. check out this bottle of hennessy. my stepdad approximates it to be 70 years old, but isnt sure. some business partner of my granddad gave it to someone,,and it just got passed around..unopened. there is chinese characters on the label...so it could have come from hongkong..back in the day. if that is true,,it is older than 70 years.

how do i research this stuff. i see no dates. i may email Hennessy. i'll have my MIL read me the chinese characters tomorrow. imagine if this stuff is worth thousands??

the liquid is clear. there is some tiny sediment at the bottom..and if i had to call it..i would say the bottle is about 1.5" low.

i am very very curious about this ancient bottle. my mom snuck it into my luggage and whispered..to keep it secret.

I found a bottle of Dewars White Label in my Dads bar years ago. I sent a pic of the label to Dewars and their historian ID'd it for me.

I pray that you never find yourself in the same room as my wife; she may keel you simply for insinuating that 40 is,"really, really old!!"

My Dad was given a bottle of Johnny Walker Red and a bottle of Canada Dry Burbon in late 1964 in NYC by his friend the President of Canada Dry Co (Ginger Ale). Still in boxes and unopened.

Also I am sitting on 7 bottles or so of Remy XO cognac that I bought when FEDCO in CA went under...$75 a bottle. Also 4 bottles of McCallum 18 year old, a bottle of Glenmoriage 18, a bottle of JW Blue Label and a bottle of Rhum Barancourt 5 star Rhum...From when Fedmart went under in 82 a bottle of Wild Turkey a few bottles of Bacardi 151. Also a bottle of USSR Stolly..

Oh when they are an inch or better low that means the alcohol has evaporated. Whiskeys don't get better as they age in bottles.

This is true, but the evaporation will concentrate the flavors.

An old bottle of hootch is an insult to nature - enjoy it as soon as you can! You wouldn't garage your vintage Porsche or put your beautiful wife in a closet would you? Heck no! Its a crime against nature! Enjoy the hootch, enjoy the car and enjoy the Wife!

Good choice of date. Jimmy Page’s birthday and my moms. Enjoy.
