I can't believe the number of people here that don't carry with one in the pipe. When I carry my Ruger LCP in my pocket it is with one in the pipe. It is DA on the first shot and hammerless, so how would I ever have an AD without my finger on the trigger? Same with my Springfield EMP which I always carry cocked and locked. Flick safety off and pull the trigger.
In that supposed "split second" you are racking the slide on your weapon, the bad guy is already shooting at you. This is not the movies. By the time you think you need to pull your weapon, things are already going bad. On all of my carry concealed pistols, my finger is my safety. If it is not on the trigger it will not fire. If you are carrying a pistol that can fire without your finger on the trigger, I suggest you get another carry pistol. |

I carry my Sig P239 with one in the chamber, ready to go, but with my older guns, I don't keep one in the chamber. I want to carry my 1911A1 in Condition 1, but it's a WWII gun and I'm not ready to trust it in that state of readiness, so I don't carry that one. My experience (military) is that when you need to use your gun, you WILL NOT remember where the safety is or how to deactivate it unless you practice a lot!

Art my 1911 is older than yours and it is fine. yours should have the 1/4 cocked position also.

You can however (at least for the time being) purchase "repair kits" for magazines that just miiiiiiiiiiight result in a magazine originally intended for 10 rounds to handle more. So I've been told anyway. ;) Man it's really nice to not live in CA anymore sometimes... |

I carry one in the pipe, cocked and locked. I have only modern firearms for CCW. If I had infinite money, I would carry only SIGs with a decocker. But I am not fearful of an AD. And I periodically check my pistols while I'm carrying to make sure the safety is engaged. |
carry a HK P7. one in chamber is just as safe since hammer is internal and isn't cocked :)

I never have a round chambered in any of my guns. I give an intruder a moment to think when they hear that round being clicked into the chamber =)
I know, why should I give them a chance? Perhaps they might soil themselves first before they get a round in the knee. Having a blown out knee is bad, but a log in your shorts too, priceless (for me anyways). |

Maybe it adds drama to a TV show or movie, but we all know they are not real life. |

Of course I don't believe that, I was mainly being sarcastic. I will use the proper emote next time. |
We do stress green text for sarcasm.

My wife set me straight when we got the Glock. If the magazine is the gun there is a round in the chamber.

Taurus TCP gets carried with one in the pipe just like the Glock. These things are kind of like a revolver in that they are not really "cocked" when one is in the pipe. The pulling of the trigger pulls the striker back and releases it. It is a long relatively stiff trigger pull as it has to move the spring loaded striker back a considerable distance before it will release it. Now having said that, I would not feel comfortable carrying a cocked single action type gun, but I would not be afraid to carry one with one in the pipe with if it had a decocking hammer blocking type safety. I just personally like the Glock type set-up where I do not have to even think about safeties should I need to instantly draw and fire my weapon. I highly doubt I will ever need to use my concealed carry weapon, but if I ever do, it is reassuring to know that it will be a type of gun I have tons of practice drawing and firing in IDPA type competition. The muscle memory attained by safely drawing and firing thousands of rounds at center mass of cardboard human sized targets at from point blank range out to 25 yards is pretty amazing. I highly recommend those who intend to carry give IDPA a try as it fun and it really improves ones confidence an proficiency in safely drawing and engaging close in targets rapidly. |

I've had a couple of times where the wife hears a noise in the house, and I have to do a room by room search. It was always done condition 0. |
