How is a FINGER a precise pointing device? (tablet PC's)
I was checking out the "Exo PC" tablet yesterday; and I can't understand why just about every new touchscreen-device has gone to cap-sense. --where you have to use the flesh of your finger. ...or other, similar meat-stick.
![]() First it was the iPhone, and other phone mfg's started following. Then the iPad, and other tablet mfgs started following. (nasty capacitive sensing) Is capsenses delicate multi-touch so important that people don't care about the imprecision of the touch field, or the problems of not being able to rest ones palm on the screen w/o getting a false multi-touch input? Maybe it's just that all of these new devices are actually designed for anorexic girls (w/ bony fingers) :-/ Aanyway, also missing from the Exo PC tablet was an integrated kickstand. wtf, mate? Seems that if missing the feature is enough for bad Apples, it must not be needed anywhere-- except as a bulk aftermarket barnacle buy. Oh well; at least it's a real computer, with useful ports and mem-card-reader. /ramble

Once things get shrunk and that's your pointing device, it becomes all about UI.
Websites aren't all built for 1920x1080 because there are still a lot of people on smaller screens, same idea. What is interesting that it does lead to, is the importance of apps over just using the browser in order to have a decent experience. I have the 2Go PC tablet that is capacitive only, and yeah, after using it a while I can really see the need for the digitizer a'la the HP Slate on a Windows machine. On an iPad it doesn't matter so much, again because of apps. The iPad has drawbacks in a corporate environment too now that we have one of those floating around, so I'm glad I didn't buy a fleet of either just yet.

You may want to check out the that Exo PC - Microsoft store @ Bell-sqr.
So, Resolution is another thing. My old Samsung tablet is 1024x600, my wife's old HP tablet is 1024x768. My expectation has been (now 5 years down the road) that we would be seeing some higher resolution screens, on tablets. --sheesh, my phone is 800x480. Although, that Exo PC is 1368x1024 (iirc) and is a nice resolution for the size. ...but is cap-sense only. The HP Slate seems to have a pen (digitizer) mode, which is really great; but is only 1024x600. Well, CES is just around the corner. Here's to hoping some mfg is bucking the cap-sense trend. --I would like a <1.5_lb PC tablet, with a res>1280x800, that can handle precision input.

The HP Slate can be used with your "meat stick" but they also provide a high precision pointer with the ability to right click. The pen acts as a pointer, then pressing the tip is a click. There is a button on the pen which if pressed acts as a right click.
