OLIVES- are they good for you.

Hi.
I love Olives.
Have them in my salad. In my Natcho's with cheese.
With pizza as well.

And in my Caesar .

The Green one's filled are very good at a certain temp. Texture is everything.

I don't know what they put in for filling that is red. Good though. Maybe some sort of plastic.

-Anyway, are Olives really good for you ?

High in sodium, but they're supposed to be good for you. I love black olives the best, I can't eat the green ones.

Great olives are just that. We don't see too many great olives in this country w/o, looking at bit. And they can be pricey.

That's quite funny. Thanks for the chuckle.

The red filler is either long enough to fill the Green Olive from top to bottom.
It tastes o.k and with good texture. Actually not much taste. But if they fill the olive after the pit is removed you may be getting your money's worth.

I have tried another Green Olive in a jar of course. It did have the Red secret filling but it was in balls. One or two. Texture was good. Taste was same.

I purchased a can of pitted black olives today for the 1st. time...It will be my last time! Yuck. But I will still eat them.

When I eat olives I always think of Aristotle. I am a olive idiot!

My favorite dinner is green olives, red olives, cherry tomatoes, grapes, cheese and bread. I have it 2 or 3 times a week. I like black olives but they're rather boring so I only eat them when I run out of green. Oh my olives are never pitted.

Little balls of salt and fat. I love the little buggers. Any and all of them. Particularly the expensive ones. Calamata, etc.

I hope they're not bad for you, I sure eat a lot of them. Hang around though, that nutjob at the "Center for Science in the Public Interest" will decide they're bad for you.

Something I've often wondered: Why (in the cheaper, regular store shelf versions) are the green olives usually sold in a jar and the ripe ones sold in cans? hmmmmm?

Interesting information about the 'corruption' in the olive oil industry.

What is Extra Virgin Olive Oil?

Before you assume that you are getting a good deal on EVOO - Extra Virgin Olive Oil - review this link.
There is poor industry consistency about what constitutes EVOO - but this Pacific Sun stuff is the real deal. I give tours at the mill once a year.

I put black olives on anything I can find. Love em. Unfortunately I'm the only one at home that seems to!

Yes but olives are composed of the good fat in terms of calories. Olives and olive oil are the basis of the Mediterranean diet what with garlic etc etc. Olive oil I believe is one of the heart smart oils as opposed to other non olive oils. If you cook with a healthy oil over the years, I would think that would have a healthy impact on the body weight(less) and blood pressure(less). My retired dietician wife is out right now but I would think that she would concur with this. If she thinks otherwise I will let u know.

Food labels can be complicated to read but the less the saturated fat the better.

Ya want a really good olive? Some epicurean markets sell olives stuff with a slice of jalapeno. Darn good. Now to take it to the next level.

Olive stuffed with jalapeno, with a slice of mozzarella cheese, covered in some homemade roasted red peppers that have spent the week marinating in olive oil and salt and pepper.

Place all of that on a cracked pepper triscuit and you have one hell of a taste sensation. The spiciness of the jalapeno mixed with the smoothness of the cheese.

Phenomenal.

There is a Spanish grocery here that sells manzanilla olives stuffed with different things... lemon, anchovy, or blue cheese for instance. The lemon olives are great.

Pacific Sun has been evaluated at the top competitions etc. Rather than marketing payola they prefer actual objective evaluation:

Award Winning Olive Oils

Best of Show/Best of Class at the Napa competition is certainly nothing to dismiss!
