Need Help Cross referencing a semiconductor!
As the title says, I have a semiconductor that won't show up on the manufacturer's website, and Google gets me nothing either. I know most everyone here is smarter than I am, so can ya help a brother out?
I think it's a power transistor, and it has the company logo from the ON Semiconductor company. The only markings are: ON(in a circle) NL55 (in a recessed circle) W -0070-00 NLEO040 It is a surface mount, with the heat tab soldered to the board, The center terminal is short, and unused (I believe it is the collector) with the others soldered to the board. When I test it as B-C-E it shows bad, but I can't cross reference it to save my life. I can't find ANYTHING on it. It is on GM ABS computer, from 2001 if it helps. THANKS!!!!!

I am pretty sure the center lead is the base. Emitter-Base-Collector with the flat part of the semicircle or the heat sink upwards. I believe Emitter is the negative lead side.
If the center lead is not used, it is functioning as a diode. The MFI RPM transducer does this. A Zener diode can be substituted.

Photo would be good. I bet that component is not technically a "surface mount " package. Also, perhaps the numbers marked on the component is the P/N the ABS computer manufacturer had On Semiconductor mark the part with? Like a Delco, or Bosch P/N ..or whoever made these things for GM.
Anxious to see a photo !

Good pic. I'd agree that it is an OnSemi part, it looks like the NLE0040 could be a date code (2000, 40th week).
We may have an old OnSemi manual (yes, a real paper manual) at work, I will take a look on Monday. Vin

That's a 936-03 case in a D2PAK package made by ON Semiconductors. Looks to be private labeled. The short middle pin is connected to the rear heat-sink surface. That's why the middle pin is not connected. Most likely an adjustable positive or negative linear voltage regulator similar to an LM317 or LM337. I'd send them an email.

Can you please provide what the reference designator associated with the part is?
It would be something like a Qx, Dx, or Ux for example where 'x' is a number. That package is used for different types of semis. For example, it could be a transistor, a diode, a linear regulator, etc. The associated reference designator would help narrow down the search of this part. |

If the board has the reference designators printed (most do) yes, it would be printed on the board.
If we can get a picture of the board area around the component in question, we should be able to see it. |

Unfortunately, I have had no luck yet in identifying it, we didn't have the correct OnSemi databook. My CEs will take a look, they love to sink their teeth into these types of problems!
