I know the pro gun folks cringe at the thought of any more restrictions in their enjoyment of their sport/ activities. How ever weeding out this type of problem buyer seems to be in the interest of all.
I am curious, if once a buyer goes thru the background check, if it has to be repeated for each purchase?

From what I saw, he failed the drug test and that kept him out of the Army, tough question, the school is the only Flag, unles you count if the sheriff done his job knowing the guy had made threats, pretty sure they had a record of that, this may have been avoided. Looking at the facts, we have a Congress Woman who is making a open, public appearance, there had have been threats, there was vandalism, and they knew who had made threats, add to that the complaints the school had filed. There were a lot more indicators, more than you-tube videos & blogs, but actual Policy records, in this case than in most shootings, the sheriffs office really dropped the ball on this one..

Sir, I feel honored to be mentioned in the same sentence with that "community organizer guy" who started his career in Chicago. However, he is not "from" Chicago. drcoastline, I will take a look asap...

Well, ossifer, I'm a feller cop - oh no, no, not a real cop! I just play one when I'm investygatin' fotoes. :) Phew! Like I'm a freakin heeroe who risk my preshus life like a, a, a dop or fire man? Yeah right. Git outta town! Ha ha ha ha!

But, back ta my fotoe investygation. You ain't foolin' no one by not wavin'at us 'cause yer goin' so dam fast it ain't safe ta take yer han's offen the steerin' wheel! No sirreee! I kin tell, ya cain't fool me!

How kin I tell (heh heh heh)? 'Cause the chane link fense ain't all blurry lookin!!! Gotcha, copper! You be busss ted! :D

Seriously, is that your Volvo, Officer? I can tell from the prancing moose on the fender that it's some kind of rare racing Volvo (one that I've never seen - amazing!).

Or is it a friend's that you used to pose in and make us guys jealous? :)

Now, real seriously, first, I'm not easily pigeonholed - I'm registered Independant; had to register as something if I want to vote.

Second, I have the utmost respect and admiration for any public servant who risks their life on a daily basis, e.g., cops and fireman (uh oh, should I have said firepersons?). And mail...persons too (there's some nasty dogs out there). Building inspectors? Um, not so much.

I don't know if your cop duties include making traffic stops, but there's something that most citizens never even think to consider and that is that on any day, any cop, even in the nicest of neighborhoods, can pull over a vehicle for rolling a stop sign or whatever and be shot dead.

It just never occurs to them. But I'm dead positive that you know it. That's what I mean, for them whut don' unnerstan' it, when I say that cops and firemen put their lives at risk every single day that they show up on the job. They (you) don't have a clue what kind of criminal or whacko they might encounter on any given day. Thanks for your service.

Third, you can't legitimately ascribe cop hatin' to liberal Democrats exclusively. That would be profiling (I have some thoughts on that later). That is glaringly obvious from the many, MANY, posts on OT and PARF made by died-in-the -wool, gun loving (many of whom are gun toting as well) conservatives who post here and rail on endlessy about dirty cops, cops being nothing more than armed revenue collectors when they get ticketed for speeding in their silver whale tail (:)) or make a human mistake, posters who stereotype cops.

Anyway, I'll post my thoughts on stereotyping/profiling later. G'night copper. SmileWavy

That's easy to say, Byron. But there are many questions, the answers to which I'd have to know before I could come to that conclusion. I'm too tired to type out what some of them are right now though.

I'd like to read Silverwhaletail's thoughts on this. G'night, dude. SmileWavy

When you take into fact that there were threats made, and her office vandalized (don't know by who, but they say it was) would seem to me to be enough to get the Sheriffs offices attention. How does threats on a local Congressmen not get attention?? What we don't know (at least me) is if her office reported the threats?? We do know that the college reported the shooter. Like I stated in the other post, if they knew there had been threats and they knew the Congressman was giving an out-door speech, with here offices already having been vandalized, well, that seems to me to be enough reason to have a few more officers there.. D'night..SmileWavy

Scoe, my point is that you are a disingenuous hypocrite,

but enough about unimportant things.

Uncle Fester from Tuscon was on LEO radar.

I presume that his mother intervened to keep him from getting pinched, as there were enough complaints on this mug that the Sheriff should have had something more cogent to say than the nonsense that has been coming out of his pie hole since this happened. He is just looking to advance whatever agenda he has, not unlike our financial genius from the windy city.

Rather than try to improve our understanding of what and why this happened, they throw fecal matter around.

Not terribly constructive.

Really Tobra, how so? ...because I "keep my charity close to home". For your information I have two younger brothers(family members) who lost their jobs in the recent economic downturn staying with me. Some "people like you" tell me, "I would not have two grown men staying with me even "temporarily" you are not their father." This is true of course, but I see things differently as I was raised to put family first. I also know they both would do the same for me if I fell down...I am not married and have no children but even if I was I would do the same thing because as the saying goes "sharing is caring"... BTW, who are you helping Tobra?

OK, you are the greatest human being to ever walk on water.

I just don't understand why you decided a thread on an assassination was the best place for this conversation to take place.

Something just seems really disjointed here.

This is a moving story...and I'm glad he got a chance for redemption. Not to trivialize this but, Ive heard this story before... only with fictional characters. Young peter parker with his newfound "powers" lets a criminal run right past him and does nothing. A officer chasing the bad guy asks, "why didn't you stop him?,...trip him?...hold him?...something? Young peter responds, "its got nothing to do with me" and continues on his way. We all know how the story ends... the same guy ends up killing his uncle Ben who raised him.. Thanks drcoastline, but I learned this story a very young age... With great power comes great responsibility...thats why I always try and help others...

Carambola, his last few posts solidifieed it for me. He is disingeniuos. The only truth he has spoken is he is a true Liberal Democrat of the Al Sharpton, O'bama, Pelosi, Reid, Keneddy ilk. There is no desire to come together to figure out problems or differences to bring every one up and make everyone better. It is the desire of the entire Upper eschelon of the Liberal Party is to keep their base ignorant and filled with hatered toward the otherside. Scoe is a primae example of the ignorance and hatred and he doesnt even know why he hates the other side. Other than they have and he doesnt.

I have concluded from Scoe's posts he may very well work on the trading floor. But he is not a trader or in the business. He most likely is cleaning up the scraps off the floor at the end of the day. As he sweeps the floor the traders are walking by dropping more scraps to clean up in the area he just finished, this angers him. That is why he has such hattred toward the traders. He wants them to clean up the scraps. As Barry has preached to him do not try and get to where they are bring them down to where you are. You see as Barry, Pelosi, Reid, preach to him and the rest of the drones blame someone else for who you are do not look at your self and see how you can make your self better.

So that's how this thread got off topic. The message is to disrupt, derail what ever it is the "enemy" is doing no matter how trivial. scoe has succeed for the last few pages of this thread he wanted to disrupt and bring it down to where he was. while he succeeded in disrupting the topic he did not succeed in bring the people here down to his level.

So back to the topic. I think the last question posed was by Tevake post #272

"Interesting debate, but I would like to steer the discussion back towards a fallout issue from the shooting, if I may.
What do those here think about upping the background check process to try to weed out those with questionable psycological profile or mental health history? This suspect is a good example of the type of history I am thinking about. I know this would require more communication between agencies to make access to this kind of information available.

Thoughts?"

Good question. Let me think about this a while.

Hey Scoe, you missed some scraps over there. When your done that my suit needs to go to the dry cleaners?

Yep. All the conservative's noses are out of joint (dayum, that must be painful !).

drcoastline 01-16-2011 11:19 AM

You know what it reminds me of Darisc?

Remember when you were at the babysitter and you and some other kids were coloring together and that one kid would come in and scribble all over your picture? Then you are in school and the teacher was reviewing a lesson or you were trying to read or take a test and that same jackass kid was in your class in the back of the room shooting everybody with spit balls? You had to stop what you were doing and wipe his smelly onion spit off the side of your face? The teacher would have to stop and you would loose half of the lesson period while the teacher removed the kid? Then on the rare occasion the teacher did call on him to answer a question his answer was... ah, ah, I dunno what? The one that was always being sent to the principals office or to alternative class so he could sit and act like a d**k head with the other d**k heads? The one all the girls would get grossed out by because he would blow soda out his nose? Then the same a**hole gets assigned to your project group so you try and include him but he can't contribute anything to the project so you try and ignore him? So he disrupts the group so you can't complete your assignment?

Remember that kid? Well he's all grown up and still scribbling all over everything.

First, you say I'm a hypocrite and that I'm not really charitable myself. Then I provide you details...so what do you say now?...nothing... figures..."people like you" can never admit defeat. Now you claim I'm not really a trader and that I sweep up the floors? I was (for a second only) thinking of providing you with the intimate details of my employment with The Susquehanna Investment Group. All I have to say is think what you wish, but sweeping floors is paying very well these days.

scoe, start a thread on your topic this one is about the assignation attempt in AZ. If you can not contribute to the topic being discussed please be respectful and do not interrupt.

Good idea but how do you do that with out infringing on peoples rights? That I am not sure of. I do think that cooperation between the agencies is necessary. Not only to keep guns from the hands that shouldn't have them but for other issues as well. I don't understand why all these agencies don't communicate already.

In the insurance business there is a central data base where all the states insurance departments can go to cross reference information on a licensee or where a licensee can go to get get licensed in another state. It just don't understand why with all the technology available today it isn't used more efficiently.

drcoastline 01-16-2011 01:07 PM

Shhhh. Please sit down and stop bothering the others.
