No she wasn't, and she was pro-2nd amendment and was against the DC gun ban.

What if he had attacked the group with a car instead of a pistol?

Way to jump to conclusions, jackass.

From an article on opposition to a DC gun ban

" Giffords owns a Glock handgun and regards gun ownership as a constitutional right and an "Arizona tradition," said spokesman C.J. Karamargin."

This is the problem- people don't readup on ANYTHING before commenting anymore. Just run you f***ing mouths, don't bother to become educated.

Where does it ****ing end?

Seriously?

10K race organized by the local NBC station?
Firehouse fundraising BBQ?
Midnight madness at Best Buy?
Opening day of the next Star Wars 3D movie?
Filine's Basement dress sale?
Jerry Mathers (as the Beaver) celebrity appearance at Winn Dixie opening?
"Arts on the Green"
Times Square at New Year's
Lot 4B with the cornhole toss at the Giant's football game?
Radio station promotion featuring 3rd rate rapper?
Easter Bunny?
Friday Night Lights high school football game

Sure many events have a police man show up, but it's all relative to risk (perceived or actual). You cannot control for every possible situation. Impossible. People assume SOME OF THEIR OWN PERSONAL RISK when they go to things. Says so on the back of the hockey ticket. Sad as it may be, the people at this event assumed some risk for going. I don't know this pol or her views and it is tragic, but by their attendance, they assumed some risk. Maybe they didn't find her controversial enough to take precautions.

Writing this into law is asinine. What's next, writing into law how many porta potties need to be there? How much bottled water? How many yards of fencing? Where does it ****ing end?

Tishabet 01-09-2011 02:36 PM

Really tragic that so many were killed and injured.

I'm quite surprised that she is still alive... I'm no doctor, but I guess I figured that when somebody is shot point blank with a large-ish caliber weapon and receives a through-and-through wound to the head/brain, you are dead.

Fine with me if people want to use metal detectors to advertise "gun-free" zones. That's all I need to know to steer clear of such a location. Metal detectors are the only "no guns" signs I abide by and they don't make anyone an iota safer. They let me know where a crowd will be and I hate crowds. And they let me know where a lot of unarmed people would make an inviting target, which is also where I don't want to be. I have to fly for work, so I grudgingly submit to the TSA then. If trained, authorized people carried guns on planes, 9/11 never would have happened.

I stand by my post.

Giffords is a liberal democrat.

No one in her posse was carrying.

Giffords and her kind are gun haters.

Try getting elected in AZ as an "anti-2nd amendment" candidate. Of course Giffords was "pro-2nd amendment."

Schumi 01-09-2011 03:38 PM

Well, if true, CONGRATULATIONS, now she has even more of a reason to hate guns.

SHE JUST GOT SHOT IN THE HEAD BY ONE.

Rick Lee 01-09-2011 03:41 PM

No, she was shot by a raging lunatic. The inanimate object is as innocuous as your or my car.

Who knows Circle K's are more important?

Edit: Armed Security guards make $15/hr for under 100$ 6 people would be alive.

Assho....

Oh, ok.

Schumi 01-09-2011 05:07 PM

Just saying, if I got shot in the head and lived, I might be a little skiddish around guns afterwards...

just like if I got hit by car, I'd be a bit skiddish crossing streets for a while.

speeder 01-09-2011 05:54 PM

Skittish as well, probably.

The shooter was kicked out of his university for antisocial behavior and the paperwork was delivered by sherifs office. How is it he purchased a gun in November?

The same way the VA Tech shooter was able to pass a NICS check - they only run felony convictions, pending charges, TRO's and involuntary mental institution commitals. I read on another BBS that the perp's mom is a city supervisor in Tucson and that's why some of his previous brushes with the law didn't make it into a record. Not sure, just repeating what I've read elsewhere. Either way, anyone can buy a gun in a private party sale in AZ with no NICS check or paperwork. Totally legal in VA too. I do it all the time.

rcooled 01-09-2011 06:23 PM

A shooter opens fire in a crowd and kills or wounds multiple people in broad daylight. There are many eyewitnesses. The shooter is taken down by bystanders with the now-empty weapon still in his hand.
My prediction: He will plead "Not Guilty". He will probably not be executed for his crime. And even if given a death sentence, it will be YEARS before it's carried out. Criminal justice in the USA is an oxymoron.

That's why it's called the "criminal justice system" instead of the "victim justice system." On the upside, AZ has an almost impossible standard for using an insanity defense. The feds will likely turn him over to AZ for prosecution, as we're much more likely to give and carry out a death sentence than the feds are.
