Porsche 911: Exotic?

Someone brought up the point in the Dodge Viper: Exotic? thread that an air-cooled 911 isn't an exotic either. Let's extrapolate this thought to include every Porsche 911 built, from 901 to the newest 997 model. Exotics, or just another sporty 2+2?

I'm interested to hear people's thoughts on this!

Carreras, S models, turbos, not so much.

GT2/3 models, kinda.

In Mythbusters speak, 'plausible'.

As a general rule, I would say no. Simply by the fact that they are everywhere. Hell there are 3 in my driveway

A 928 with working electrics would be exotic..

I think anything in the 911 range is too usable to be considered an exotic.

The only 911 that *might* be exotic was the 959
Otherwise, no

I've seen 911s described as "semi=exotic" before. Thought it sounded reasonable.

Hard to argue. Yep, exotic

I guess I was thinking 911s based on production tubs

In the little town up North in Minnesota where I was born, a 911 is exotic. But then, so is anything that cannot be purchased from the local dealer that sells Chevy, Buick and GMC, all from the same lot, or maybe an F-150 from the nearest Ford dealership, a few towns away.

Anywhere else on this planet, the 911 is not exotic.

Even in podunk Wichita a 911 is a fairly common sight, even the occasional turbo, GT2, or GT3. They turn my head, but generally I think they blend in. By that criteria, no. A true exotic has to cause whiplash and drooling on the part of passerby.

A bunch of young kids up in a remote town in Maine were standing outside a store when I pulled up in my car. When I came out, they were all standing around it, looking at it. ''What kind of a car is that ?'', said one of the kids. They ll stood there a moment, and this little 8 year old girl said, ''I know ... it's a SPORTS CAR .''.

And there you have it.

mmmmmmm......well, probably not but when the oil cooler (the rear one), a piston or even the tranny breaks it becomes 'exotic' quick, fast and in a hurry !!!! hahahahaha................

Teutonic engineering makes one think that the early 911S's aren't an exotic automobile as they are realiable and thus usable.

However at this late date with the survivor rate being realitivily low one could very easily think that the early S cars are an exotic. With roughly 15,000 S cars built over a 7 year period that equates to about 2000 cars per year. Which puts them into Ferrari 308 territory, does one classify the 308 series aa an exotic?

One has to think the the 550 Spyders 356 Speedsters, Carrera's 356 Cabs are exotic as their production was low. Even the 914-6 could be in this classification.

The problem with Porsches being an exotic is that they run to dam well.

911's are exotic cars like strippers are exotic dancers.

All in all, no, I don't think the 911 is an exotic car. Except for anything Playa has 'cause they are the shizzle, fo sure.
