'Interesting' thing happened with Android phone.

My wife and I upgraded to Android phones just before Christmas. I have a gmail account that I've had for years, and she has one that she's never used.

Well, she wanted to play a game that everyone was talking about so I went to the market from her phone to download it for her. She hadn't put in her gmail account on her phone, and I was in a bit of a rush, so I just put in my account information.

Here's where the fun begins. All of my contacts synced to her phone. Not just the people I had in my contacts list, but ANYONE and EVERYONE I've e-mailed from my gmail account. There are 100's of craigslist email 'contacts' and a slew of others that the only contact I've had was a single e-mail. What a mess... She went from having a few dozen contacts to having 100's.

My gmail account is now the primary account and can not be deleted. Sprint geek suggested resetting the phone, but then we'll lose everything else that been set up. Yuck.

I'm thinking we'll sync all of the contacts to her gmail account, and start cleaning it up there. Then I guess we'll need to reset the phone to remove my account and put her's in from the start. Yuck yuck...

at least your old phone was able to sync with gmail. my old one wouldnt and i had to transfer it all manually. talk about a yuck suck fest.

only real gripe i have had about verizon, not having a sym card

Go back to the Market and download Delete Contacts. It is free and it might help cleanup the mess you have.

FWIW, I would do the hard reset and start clean.

Manage her contacts from web then reset the phone. What else has already been "setup" that you will lose?

If your gmail acct is in her phone just do a straight up reset / wipe of the phone (under security if I remember correctly) and start over, just whatever you do don't ADD her account to the phone (so your email and her email are on at the same time) because it will merge all the contacts.

Oh, and you saved all those CL emails cuz u didn't want them in spam, right? It's a mess but u log into your gmail account thru the web and just delete them, no other choice.

Lol, angry birds is my guilty pleasure. This was fruit ninja.

The phone had had the basic setup. Screens, ringtones, etc. Each by themselves is no big deal, but all together will be a pain.

Her contacts only exist on her phone and are now all mixed with mine. So I think cleaning them up online will be easier.

I'm not sure how she got all of the CL emails. They don't show on my phone, or in my contacts in gmail.

I tried that delete contacts app. I accidentally clicked on the x at thw bottom and deleted all. Whoops. One of the ways I managed it was to unclick all the old contacts I had selected in yahoo (my primary account is now gmail). That helped a lot.

I think you'll need to do the hard reset although if it's the newer OS you might be able to change the primary account in another way. I have an older Droid and it was originally set up using an old Google enterprise account from my old job. The only way to make my personal gmail the primary was to reset it.
