Redwing boots?
Anyone here have Redwing boots? Been looking at the Iron Ranger, as I am looking for something I can wear more often.
link: Red Wing Leather Boots - Iron Ranger - 8111 Any input would be appreciated. TIA

I had the mens engineer boots, without the buckle.(Red Wing Leather Boots - Engineer - 2991)
Never found them too comfortable, very stiff, but that could have been because I never wore them long enough to loosen them up. Mine were steel toed and the the reinforced part was not big enough. the edge ot the reinforcement pressed against my pinky toe and that hurt when walking so I never got around to using them properly. They were very very good quality, extremely strong. colleagues that did wear them often said they were tough as nails! The boot you're looking at looks more comfortable, and I'm sure they will last you a long time. Do they have steel toes?

Redwing's rep has been taking some hits lately. Some of thier models are made in China now and that has tarnished the rep. Carolina Boots and Georgia Boots are two that I've read about on other forums as being as good or better than Redwings.
BTW I've been a RW wearer for 20+ years. Check out this site..... American Made Work Boots and Shoes - Over 300 Styles, Carolina, Chippewa, Double H, Justin, Matterhorn, Made in USA - Free Shipping |

Red Wing boots were the second worst pair of footwear I've owned. They take forever to break in, and mine had soles that wouldn't stay attached. Three times I had to take them to the place where I purchased them to get them repaired, which cost a little over one third what I bought them for each time back. All this is coupled with the fact that the cobblers were always very defensive, and ill mannered when I'd bring my boots back for service. On the third time, upon getting in my truck to leave, I recklessly threw the boots into the bed of the vehicle amongst some parts, and misc. debris while two entering patrons of the shop watched in surprise to my show of dissatisfaction.
I made sure I was wearing the new pair of Wolverines I'd just bought for half the price of those Red Wings when I came in to pick up my old boots.

The Wolverines have always done me well, Carhartt's have been awfully damn good as well.
You can do much better for less.

Here is a tip.
When you get a new pair of boots, put on a good, thick pair of socks, run the tap water as hot as it will go, fill the boots up, dump the water out immediately and walk around in the boots until they are dry, et voila, they are broken in, in a day.

I have worn Redwings for years and they have always fit me very well.
I still wear the last pair I purchased when I teach shop. They must be 8 years old. They had a lesser product line that was made off shore that was priced less. I didn't realize that some of their name brand boots were made overseas now.

I've worn all of them, I found Danner to be the most comfortable & durable if you take care of them.

On my third pair of Redwing 202's. They do take a while to break in but imho a great shoe - very capable.

I wear a pair of Irish Setter's by Red Wing for Hunting, Elk Hunter 882's. I have been very happy with them.
I also have 2 pairs of Danner's and have been happy with them as well. Bill |

danners are from china too. i have a pair maybe 11 years old that i love, and store away tenderly. i need them to last. my hunting boots.
redwings were my exclusive workboot forever. i wear them on the jobsite until they blow up. i admit, the quality has gone downhill, and that redwing store owner is starting to look lonely. i'm more office bound now, so my boots get better mileage. my next pair may be Wesco. altho the gay community has embraced them as their footwear of choice here..hahah.

Our company buys us 1 pair (safety toe) up to $150.00. Last year I went with a shoe. This year I went with a RW boot, spending all of the allowed $$. They suck!!!!! I think they are the worse fitting/wearing footwear I have ever worn. They are 3 months old and still hurt my feet. The higher seniority guys TOLD me not to get them but didn't listen. Next time, I will buy my own and expense the cost. I was told by the RW service rep that "these are quality workwear, you just need to break them in." Bite me. ![]()

It's too bad to hear that Redwing has lost their way.
The company headquarters and factory is not too far from me (just down the river) They used to have a stellar reputation. I wonder if Chinese pricing finally got to them.
