Nice induction system! I'm a Blue-Oval guy at heart and I can honestly say that I haven't seen too may Gurney-Weslake SBF valve covers.......nice touch on what appears to be a well built car.

A friend of mine just bought a GT40 car out of Connecticut two weeks ago and he's been dying to take it out for a drive but the weather isn't cooperating. I'll find out the details of his car and pass them on to you later. Don't worry....his induction system isn't half as nice as yours but I'm sure you hear that all of the time!

Any single sisters? :)

Congrats and good luck with it. No rearward vision at all but with power like that who looks back!

I know it is right hand. The shifter is also right hand. I know, a little different. I joked that I may be pulled over when some cop sees my 10yr old in the drivers side.

Years ago when I raced I drove a right hand drive Austin Healey. Took a bit getting used to but after a while it felt natural. Just go someplace big and wide where you can practice.

ok, I am in.

Is it really running the Gurney Weslake heads? That kicks the cool factor up by about 10 clicks!
Individual coils for each plug, +3 cool clicks! What ecu are u using?
Is it fuel injected? looks like an oxygen sensor so I betting it is.

What is the shadowy car in the background that also looks like fun in the making?

It does have the Gurney Weslake heads. It has Motec EFI. The car in the background is a LOLA the seller is working on.

JJ Best is inspecting on Monday. Now, to find a shipper to bring it home. High End Transport quoted $1100 for covered from IL to SC. Still need to do more research into them or someone else. I've had a very bad experience with a transport before. I'll post more pictures when she arrives.

Drive it home! Would cost a lot less and be a lot of fun!

Please get your inspection report in writing from someone who knows these cars. I won't hold myself up as an authority here but folks have been making weslake valve covers for windsor heads for a fair while now. I'll try to attach an image of a SBF with Weslake heads

IMO, this GT40 has weslake covers on windsor heads and that is not a ZF box behind that motor (probably a Getrag t-ax). Neither of these things are necessarily worrisome (other than you seemingly were told differently) but you need/deserve to know exactly what it is you're paying for.

Good luck!!

I'll drive it from A-B for the cost of the flight plus $350 per Diem & expenses.

ditto on the valve covers

wasn't that you that had a carport of deck cover fall down??

I'm wondering where yo are going to keep this car?

TRE Cup 01-22-2011 12:32 PM

another pic of real G-W heads on a motor. Note the short valve covers

Registration shouldn't be an issue. A guy down the street has Defenders built up in England and shipped over here with only a CO. Pay you're county/city taxes and go wait for hours in the DMV, they'll issue the title. Just make sure they don't mess it up. They titled my '81 Rover as a 2010 and I didn't catch it until I got pulled over.
RHD will freak other drivers out pretty bad on occasion, though I've never been pulled over because of it. I was pulled over once purely because the cop wanted to check out my truck though...

I drove a mk V gt40 rhd on the street for about an hour. It sucked. Besides being hard to see behind you in the first place, making a left turn is dicey unless you wait for the light to go truly red and opposing traffic stops. That just invited impatient horn honkers to do their thing.

Yeah, performance sure was exciting like a 914-6 on super steroids (494 all aluminum with about 650 hp ) , but I could not wait to get out of it.
Otherwise,On the track, it was a blast :D

Also, have you sat in the seat and checked out the pedal box area space? I have not been in a roaring forties, but the CAV gt-40 (built in South Africa and no it is not the same as a Superformance) has a tiny space. I swear its smaller than a Lotus Europa. Fine if you have tiny feet, but it will be a beotch being comfortable with it.

As far as space: I am a 30-yr old woman size 8. Space is not really an issue.
This is not a daily driver. This is a fun addition. My 930 has a Fixed Back Classic RS seat. I am used to small spaces. I enjoy the driving experience. As far as roughing it, the 930 has no AC no Heat and I do just fine.

Funny, Stephanie, I thought PorscheGAL was a screen name letting us know you were a Guardian ad Litem that happened to like Porsches.
