Getting ready to buy a GT-40 Replica Very Excited. Hoping you guys can help with a question about registering this car. I will be getting a Certificate of Origin. Is this as good as a title to register and tag the car in most instances. Anyone with knowledge in this? Any thoughts would be great.

Pssht. Why not a real one? I'm jealous. The GT40 design is one of the few cars I'd be willing to get in replica form. Mainly based upon the fact that I'll never be able to own a real one. Congrats. No help here for your original question, but I'd guess whether or not the Cert of Origin is enough will depend on your own state's DMV rules. If SC isn't accepting of that, I've heard Alabama and Georgia are quite flexible in their rules.

More info? Where's it from, who built it, that sort of thing. Has it ever been registered before?

Sorry, Happily married. But I have loved that rumble of the engine since I first heard it. My only regret is there is not enough garage to house every car I want, and not enough days of the week to drive them.

Wow congrats also. I love the GT40. If I had 100K, (for a replica) I'd own one in a heartbeat. Have fun with it!

Quote from the seller: I never registed the car. That is why I only drove the car only in parades and trailered it to car shows. I do have all the paperwork for transfer for registration. The car was inspected by the DMV and passed examiner for kits.

Stephanie, Have the seller register the car. I ran into this same problem with a trailer I got with my racecar. When the trailer is sold to the first buyer, the trailer company issues the Cert. of Origin (let's call it "C/O" for short) in buyer's name. Said buyer must then apply for title to the trailer. In my instance, I simply got the C/O with the trailer (I didn't look closely at it and assumed it was a title) when I bought the racecar package. When I finally looke closer, I assumed all I had to do is submit the C/O to the Secretary of State for title issuance. No go. I was told I need it titled first. So I ask my brother who's been an honest car salesman for ~15 yrs. and he said yes, I have to get the fella to whom the C/O was issued, to acquire title to the trailer in GA and then sign over the title to me. He said by not doing this, it's what's called "jumping title." Quote:
edit........ Forgot to say how awesome your future car is. The GT40 is a timeless piece of racing history. It looks so darn fast sitting still. I love driving my own via Gran Turismo4 !

The trouble comes when the title/CO/MSO is signed by someone other than the listed owner or valid dealer. You can't reassign without being a dealer. In the case of the GT40, if he never registered the car, and he isn't a dealer, then he probably cannot legally reassign it unless he titles it (which means he pays tax and registration fees).

That looks like a Lola body in the background...IIRC, one of the GT40 replica companies makes both...not sure which one. If I were to buy a GT40 replica, I'd want an ERA but that isn't intended to detract from your car. I have an NOS M1 ZF t-ax in my garage safety wired, shifter box and all hooked up to SBF bell housing...maybe some day.

Stephanie, I would check on clubcobra.com since that topic comes up constantly. The process of registering that type of car can be fairly difficult in some states and easier in others. I love the GT40's but I'm going a different route.....I put down a deposit on a CSX Cobra but I'm not taking a delivery until September or October. What type of motor does your car have? Post photos of the car (and the engine) when you can. Good luck!

Next question... Do you need a stable master...or driver...or someone to wash it? Can you at least post some pictures for us losers?
