Pretty much sums it up for me.

I could go on for hours as well, but the breakfast my son and I had with targa911S remains golden for Jack, my son. Dave's cave is something.

And Dave is OLD. He has no other redeeming virtues;)

that covers a fair amount of the board...

I started out on the R1100S side of the board but found I gravited to spending more time on the OT part. For me it had the correct critical mass number of members (they call them inmates on ADV, but that forum is far too big to have the 'closeness' this one has). Enough activity to get a feel for who the active posters are after just a few months of hanging out.
I'm certainly humbled by the some of the writing and intelligence I find here, a bit different from what I'm exposed to during the eight hours a day I spend at the pawnshop.
I'm sorry I've only met about a dozen members in person, all have been stand-up guys.
Or maybe I'm just here 'cause we don't have tv.
Jim

I bring down the average a bit.SmileWavy

If one were to venture over to the tech forums you will be amazed at the amount of knowledge there.

Some of the biggest names in Porsche repair and the automotive industry hang out and share their experiences with us.

Dempsey(hey, it's his playground, he gets to be first;)), Walker, Clay, Zimmerman, just to name a few.

These guys have truly BTDT.

Thanks for everything, gentlemen!!

This place does keep the brain engaged. I have learned much from this place. Great well of knowledge concerning Porsche and all things Porsche.

In my travels I'll bet I've met 100 Pelicans or more. In London, Prague, Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Auckland, Boston, NYC, Providence, RI, Knoxville, Ann Harbor, Detroit, Honolulu, Budabest,, and other cities. I've always had an excellent time. Today, I took Joeaska, Slodave and Noah930 on a tour of Disney and Universal Studios.

I'd probably study more if it weren't for you bastards....

No good comes from here, but heck, you guys are the only ones who will talk with me anymore. I think it is the fellow ship for me, we are all so different , but still like minded. I got started on the used parts classifieds , then the tech side, and for some strange reason, I peek in here more often than not. I like to take a couple of breaks throughout the day at work, get off my feet, have a smoke, and peek in here to see what's happening .
I have learned a ton here as well, It's great that some of the heavy hitters in the Porsche Biz, lend out their expertise and knowledge. And there are some fart smellers' in OT as well.
Good hanging with you fella's

What good comes from being here?

A wee bit of sanity in a world gone mad? Or should that be the other way around?

I am always amazed at how we can get pretty brutal with each other at times, and then when a family member passes (4 legs or 2), or when someone has a genuine tragedy, all the B.S. stops. The two guys that were in a heated argument, drop it all and arrange a way for the rest of us to help, or offer assistance, or even a kind word.

Plus, the knowledge base here is incredible. No matter what the problem, someone here has advice, or will give you a contact to someone that has the answer you need. ESPECIALLY when the answers we need are about life, and how to deal with it.

Some of you have solidified my beliefs of what I THOUGHT I knew, and others have opened my mind to different ways of thinking on MANY subjects.

If that isn't the definition of friends, I don't know what is. I honestly think I'm a better person for hanging out with you poopy-heads :D

Junk food for the brain...

And some of it that isn't.

Good car information and a good sounding board for ideas and opinions. I think it provides a valuable opportunity to test out theories and positions on various things and see what others think of them. In general the crowd that hangs here is quite a bit smarter than the average person on the street, so the feedback provided is a bit more valuable, IMHO. Lots of varied and diverse backgrounds, experiences here also - it's a good community as a whole.

And the occasional entertainment I get to give or receive is a bonus (again the whole "junk food for the brain" thing...)

Good boob pics too.

Just you wait Mr. Paul, when I see you I'm gonna slap you! Why I outta!

Nice to know you/Jack hold me in such high regard. The feeling is mutual.

You guys have helped me out in many, many ways since July 2002, when I 1st started hanging out here. Where else would I have a chance to get to know (in a very superficial way, I know) so many interesting people?

peppy 01-30-2011 10:12 AM

Was a Pelican customer for a several years before I found the BBS. O/T came along at a somewhat low point in my life and I have been grateful ever since.
I use this as a sounding board, a source of information and ideas and sometimes a roof top.

I have gotten a lot more than I could ever give.

Thanks

I bowed out a year or two ago and stayed away for a while. Now come on from time to time but about 10% of what I used to do. Then with the latest fiasco it just kinda soured me and its not worth it.

Better spending the time fussing with the cars or airplane. Will still meet some Pelicans out on the road but thats it.

Targa911s just helped me immensely with a decision I had been trying to make. I'm dying to meet him.....and all the rest of you. I met Nostatic last week, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Heck.....I'd even like to meet Byron.

The Internet's ultimate social value will be determined by whether it separates people.....or keeps them apart. Pelican represents the promise of Internet community

targa911S 01-30-2011 05:00 PM

the list of people that I would like to meet from this board is long indeed. We should plan an event somewhere in middle ground. My house would be way too small.

Thanks for the comps Supe.

Its rather simple actually.

A repeated behavior pattern originates from either a true positive feedback or a neurotic compulsory syndrome.
