I saw this on the morning news followed by a quick video of 3 or 4 crashes that are supposed to indicate vehicles running red lights,
They said that accidents went down 20% where there are cameras,
and the last line was "there have also been reported that rear end collisions are up at the same intersections".
WTF. are the camera companies trying to instill that a camera will make up safer drivers

If you run a red light you get what you deserve. Sucks for the other guy though.

Thank you!

I say we levy an internet tax on people who do that.

Study: Raleigh's red light cameras don't reduce wrecks

Study: Raleigh's red light cameras don't reduce wrecks :: WRAL.com

The study provides strong evidence that the cameras can save lives when used appropriately with the goal of making roads safer, said AAA Mid-Atlantic spokeswoman Ragina Averella. "However, without proper ... oversight these automated enforcement measures can sometimes be abused and become revenue generators instead of lifesavers at the expense of motorists,"

Several years ago in San Diego, a lot of people raised h#ll about red light cameras being used for revenue purposes. Of course the city denied it. The lights were contracted out to a private company with them sharing the money with the city. During the debate, it came out they had shortened the duration of the yellow lights - of course not for revenue purposes.
