You model car fans, remember the Black Widow?

You model car fans, remember the Black Widow? It was a Monogram model. T-bucket, with a SBC and a groovy 6 pack intake.

Guy had one built full size for the Roadster Show.

I never bought the model but I do remember it on the shelves.

Wow. Thanks.
How well I remember. It was one of my first models. I remember how the plastic smelled when I opened the box and a sense of excitement over having this project to build. I was about 12 years old I guess, spending all my time reading Henry Gregor Felson's books and building models. It's funny how I can remember some of the models I built as well as I can remember some of the real cars I had.

The owner comissioned Hollywood Hot Rods (Cali) to build a full scale replica @2 years ago from that model kit down to every last detail rumored to cost $200K + The car has won many awards and recently was seen seen for sale in a popular online hot rod specialty classifieds for @$135K+ but no takers as far as I know.

Interesting thing is most of the model kits at that time were based off of real TV or show cars. This model kit was not.

I don't remember the Black Widow, but do clearly recall the Red Baron, Meat Wagon and Mom's Pies.

Looks like the Red Baron was a show car too.

I've always wanted a T-bucket, but it just seems so insanely impractical. It would only get driven a few times a year, my garage space is way limited.

I had a big scale model (1/8?) of that goofy Red Baron as a kid.

Also built most of the Monogram/Revell "wagon" genre.

In retrospect, those cars don't appear quite as practical as I thought they were when I was 8.

We had soooo much fun building those as kids. It wasn't long after finishing the build that we would take them out in the driveway and play destruction derby or stick an m80 under the hood and blow them up. Kids today have no concept of building a model car or plane.
I've got hundreds of unbuilt Porsche model kits........someday I'll build them.

I've always wanted a hot rod of some sort too. But I've already got one fair-weather car with the Speedster and I don't need another one.

WAIT!
I forgot - I turned my '56 coupe into a led sled for a '50s party a few years ago. That's almost a hot rod.

Very cool, thanks for posting...

All those goofy show cars/models were part of my growing up.

+1 on wanting a T-bucket but WTF would I use it for... much rather have a chopper or speedster... at least they are fun to drive.

The pie wagon was also based on a real (show) car at that time that actually ran. The model was a little more stylized tho. Interestingly enough, in the last year the pie wagon re-surfaced; albeit in sad shape and was listed for sale.

You should hear Barris tell his story of how he came about the caskets he used for that car and a couple other "casket" themed creations.

Great thread, what trip down memory lane!

I did have the Red Baron model.

Also had the Orange Crate, Li'l Coffin, the Monkee Mobile, Silhouette (a futuristic George Barris one I think), Don Garlitt's dragster, Revell's '41 Willy's gasser. A bunch of others I can't remember now....

Those were the days...

I could not find on-line a picture of the "Meat Wagon", so maybe my memory is not so good. Mom's Pies / Mother's Pies - close enough.

I built a lot of models, 1:24 cars followed by 1:32 aircraft by the dozens.

My peak at age 17 was a 36" wingspan balsa frame Spitfire.
