Does anyone think the Sharks have anything left for the Canucks or are they toast in 4 or 5 games? I stuck my neck out at the end of round two and said I thought the Sharks would be on the western side. Looks like I'm about to get my neck chopped.

Hey Joe

I'd like to think you are right re: the Sharks are toast, but like most long suffering Canuck fans, I am still (in a way) waiting for the other shoe to drop. Last night's game was a close affair for 2 periods, on the scoreboard at least, until 'Captain Cement Head' - Ben Eager & his room temperature I.Q. decided to take his team out of the game with some real dumbassed penalties. The guy is an idiot with 'million-dollar-legs & a 2 cent brain'. The Hosers should be good for a game or two as Niemi might possibly steal a couple of victories for them. Having said that & based on Vancouver's current level of team play, I do have a good feeling about their chances of getting to the dance. Looking forward to tonight's game as I will be able to relax, have a cold one, & not be on the edge of my seat moaning every missed play or blown call. Good luck to your 'Broons'

JB: Eager is just doing his job: finish the check, be an agitator... Sedin saw him coming and turned his back at the last second to draw a penalty.

That bum Seguin...only one goal (probably)...I can see why 1990 is not impressed. Even if Ferrence gets the goal, Seguin made a heaven of a play to keep it in the zone that led to the goal.
The B's are the first team to have an answer for the Bolts 1-3-1. Bergeron looks like he never left. Tim (Vezina) Thomas did a nice job. I am encouraged.
JJ: great comic. Not a lot of joy up north lately so you gotta love the one (and probably best) chance left. Thanks for the cusine tip. Do you think that turbocarrera wants white or red vinegar with the hat?

Lets be clear: I suspect he will be a great player. I expect him to be a great player. He was neck-and-neck for first overall with Taylor Hall during his last year in Junior. He has the pedigree and skills, and apparently the desire.

I just don't like the premature beatification. The NHL has seen a thousand flash in the pan rookies and play-off wonders. Let's see a body of work before we all get on the bandwagon.

And I hate Boston. Although they did play a sound game last night.

If Tampa is content to play on the periphery and shoot from bad angles they are done.

1990: As much as I hate to admit this...right now I don't care if Seguin is a future hall of famer with all the skills of Orr and Gretsky (and even Dominik Hasek

) put together. I'm just hoping he'll have one of those amazing debutante playoffs and help bring Lord Stanley's silverware to Boston for a year. Nes pa? I admit that I am a 40+ years Bruin fan so I can't be impartial but one thing I appreciate is that they play more of the old time hockey. Hard hitting and grind it out: strong defense and willing to get down in front. Plus, I like Thomas' "style". He never quits, is not predictable, hey he'll even fight when he needs to. Do you remember him chasing Avery down after Sean took a cheap shot at him?

Reminds me of Hasek...
Now the fans in Boston, well lets just say they haven't quite got the art of hospitality down pat yet.

Turbocarrera: no reply? At least tell me if its a baseball hat or or one of those furry lumberjack jobs?

I get the feeling that both of you would rather see Tampa Bay playing the Canucks.

I really don't care who wins. I truly hate Toronto, but otherwise I am simply a fan of the game. My preferred final is Bruins and the Sharks to see Joe Thorton return to Boston. I really have no opinion on Seguin other than this: his body of work is too small to judge his 'greatness'. End of story.

Por-sha...wasn't it Lucic who was everywhere last night? TT was a stone wall for sure but the B's in front were playing Cup level hockey. They were all over the puck, lanes were being closed down and they kept it clean. I can't even b1tch about Chara!

The point I was trying to make was Eager, though his lack of discipline, took his team out the game with his ill-advised 'plays'. Sedin conceded in post-game interviews he'd turned away after playing/passing the puck. Be that as it may, it had all the look of an 'intent to injure' type of play as Eager was just a tad late. He had more than enough time to let up, yet complete an effective & solid check without trying to staple Daniel to the glass. It was a 'bush league' move; a forth liner trying to take out an Art Ross Trophy winner & Hart Trophy candidate. I can think of no fan who would tolerate Eager's antics were he doing the same to any top line or star player on their favourite team. As for Eager's b1cthing & going 'bananas' about Bieksa fighting Marleau; bear in mind, Marleau is about 2-3 ins. taller & 25-30 lbs. heavier - he threw down the gloves first. It begs the question, "just whatinhell did Eager expect Bieksa to do?". I concede there certain players who have a type of 'edge' to their game & are a necessary part of any team that hopes to achieve success in pro sports. They are 'part & parcel' of any contact sport. I believe most fans want to see hard fought games but will agree, there is code of conduct & behaviour that must be adhered to & enforced as much as reasonably possible without compromising the nature & yet preserving the integrity of the game. OBTW - last night's game was very entertaining & FWIW - good result.

JB: Very well said and mostly true. I just know that a4th line agitator's job is to try to get a 1st line player to be thinking about them rather than the puck. I can say that the Versus comontators stated that they thought Sedin purposely turned his back to draw the boarding play. They didn't say anything about it being late. Has Eager gotten a call from the league? IMO Marleau invited the fight and he was dumb to do so.
1990: I totally agree that Seguin has more potential than proven greatness. I was seriously upset when they traded Big Joe. Thorton versus Chara: wouldn't that be a clash of the Titans!

To Eager: no one is indispensable and dumb things will get you collecting splinters.
To the Canucks: they aren't going away without a fight.

The commentators thought that the 5 minute major should have been 2 minutes. Comments?

They are correct. It was not technically a hit from behind. It hurt him. Big deal. It should have been a minor, maybe for charging. No harm done. They won.

I realize that the league must exert control, but if it wasn't a hit from behind or a head shot then 5 minutes is out of order. But I think no one would have argued 2 minutes for a charge. The harm done is to the credibility of officiating. A pro player shouldn't need to wonder where the line between a good hit and a bad hit is. An occasional faux pas by the refs is understandable but dang , the bad calls come as frequently as the good ones.

OK so 2-2 in spite of the big mistakes being made by TB and the B's ability to capitalize. I really thought the B's were going to own this game. Well now its a dogfight....good for the fans.

I thought Eager's hit on Sedin was much worse, and Eager got 2 minutes. Regardless, you hit a player in the numbers and you take your chances. It's not 1975, there are times you have to let up. Even in the playoffs.

And of course yesterday Downie was called for diving when his head was driven into the glass, then his head hit the ice and he couldn't make it back to the bench on his own. So we go from possibly a major to Horton for a head shot, to playing even, and Downie is out for the rest of the game.
